Van Wesemael and Beltz Eliminated

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Sander van Wesemael and Wouter Beltz have ran out of chips and will have to return tomorrow for a second chance if they want another shot at the Main Event.

Van Wesemael shoved all in for 8,400 and got called from the player on the button. Van Wesemael held {A-Spades}{K-Hearts} and was in good shape against the {J-Spades}{9-Spades} of his opponent. Van Wesemael was in good shape to start but had to part ways after a {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} rundown favored his opponent.

Wouter Beltz was down to his last 11 big blinds and shoved ace-three suited into James Romero's pocket eights. No help ended Beltz' run in the ultimate level of the night.

Stepanian Flushed Out by Metaal

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Wladimir Stepanian
Wladimir Stepanian

Wladimir Stepanian opened in early position and Govert Metaal defended his big blind. The flop brought {2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and Stepanian continued for 1,600. Metaal check-raised to 4,000, Stepanian three-bet shoved around 22,000 and Metaal called it off after some thought.

Wladimir Stepanian: {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Govert Metaal: {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

The turn was the {8-Clubs}, giving Stepanian a set but completing Metaal's flush draw. The {A-Spades} on the river didn't pair the board and Stepanian hit the rail with much dismay.

Hu Sends Van Brugge Out

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

There was a three-way all-in clash between David Hu, Kees van Brugge and a third player. The third player had {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and everyone covered. Hu had the best hand with {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. Van Brugge was the shortest stacked player and in very poor shape with {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}.

The board ran out {6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Hu nearly tripled up. Van Brugge was eliminated and will have to try again tomorrow on Day 1b.

Post Pains Van Hooren

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Jacco van Hooren
Jacco van Hooren

In a four-bet pot between Zeus Post (button) and Jacco van Hooren (small blind), the flop came down {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Van Hooren checked. Post continued with 11,000 and Van Hooren came along with a rapid call.

Van Hooren checked the {3-Clubs} on the turn to Post, who went deep in the tank. After two minutes, he settled on a shove for 56,000 and now it was Van Hooren who had a decision. The young Dutchman let out a deep sigh, sunk back in his chair, then moved his hoodie over his head trying to figure it out.

Van Hooren took the better part of three minutes before reluctantly sliding his cards over the line, conceding the pot to Post.

No Tetraphobia, Yong "Feels It"

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

In the final hands of the day, Jin Yong was looking for a double-up and went for it with {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} against {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}, putting his entire stack of 35,000 at risk.

"I feel it," the Malaysian player said, and sure enough, the feeling turned out to be right, as the dealer spread out an {5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{K-Hearts} board to give Yong a late double-up.

"No Gamble, No Future"

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Marco Rodrigues
Marco Rodrigues

In one of the final hands of the day, it was Paul Berende who limped in for 600 at a table that has seen crazy action all day. Jin Yong and Marcel Goldenbelt also limped along before Marco Rodrigues made it 10,000 straight. Back on Berende, he limp-reraised and slid a large tower of T-5,000 chips forward.

Yong and Goldenbelt quickly got out of the way but Rodrigues had a different plan.

"Gamble." he said, determined, and instantly flicked in a calling chip. The call was for his entire stack of 59,025.

Marco Rodrigues: {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}
Paul Berende: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Berende was in a commanding spot to claim a massive overnight chip lead but fate would tell a different story as the flop came {5-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs}. The "oohs", "aahs" and "that's so sick" at the table increased in volume as the dealer revealed the {2-Diamonds} on the turn to give Rodrigues quads, making the {A-Diamonds} river inconsequential.

"It's a Chinese thing," Yong lectured after the hand. "No gamble, no future!"
