Day 1a of the 2018 €1,650 WSOP International Circuit Main Event is in the books. In total there were 262 entries of which 94 players managed to bag and tag for Day 2 which will take place on Sunday, March 18. Chip Leader of the day is Alexander Romme with 310,500 in chips.

Second in the chip counts is Eyal Bensimhon with 250,500 who eliminated two other players in the last hand of the day. He already won a WSOP Circuit Ring earlier this week when he beat the rest in the Deep Stack Open for a payday of €16,580. Closing the podium for today is Ben Zech who grabbed a huge pot when he eliminated Ohana Shlomo with a flopped set of treys against the pair of kings on the turn.
Other notable chip counts are Thomas White (160,000), Timur Margolin (140,100), Jan Bednar (138,000), Robin Hegele (110,000), Makarios Avramidis (85,800), Paul Berende (62,200), and Jan Mach (45,900).

Unfortunately, not everyone was lucky enough to find a bag at the end of the day. Players including Fabian Gumz, Michal Mrakes, Rickie Silcock, Aleksandar Tomovic, Maksim Shulga, Stephen Ayres, Catalin Pop, Paul Lozano, Jakob Miegel, and Robert Auer for example. They will all have another shot at making Day 2 though as Day 1b is scheduled to start at 2 pm local time on Saturday, March 17.

PokerNews will be here from the start to provide you with all the updates to see who else will join the 94 remaining players of today on Day 2. So do come back!

Gegic Eliminates Di Giacomo

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Rifat Gegic
Rifat Gegic

Madalin Cornel Petraru in the under-the-gun position raised to 2,700 even though on his left, Claudio Di Giacomo, was seated who had already announced that he would go all-in every hand of the last six hands that still needed to be played. And indeed, Di Giacomo shoved for the sixth time for 47,500 in total. Rifat Gegic, sitting on the button, also shoved for even more. Petraru tanked with a stack shorter than Gegic's. The clock was called on him and when the floor came over, he open-folded {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}.

Claudio Di Giacomo: {Q-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Rifat Gegic: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The board ran out {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{6-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts} - Gegic flopped two pair on the flop and that was more than enough to eliminate Di Giacomo from the tournament in the last hand of the day.

Matejka Calls the Bluff

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Dominik Matejka
Dominik Matejka

The board read {9-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and Dominik Matejka was in the tank after having checked previously and Saverio Zangone had shoved for about 15,000. After a while, Matejka decided to call and tabled {A-Clubs}{3-Hearts} for a pair of treys. Zangone got up from the table and tried to throw his cards into the muck. The dealer turned around the cards to show he had {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a bluff. Zangone was not impressed that the dealer turned the cards around but as it was an all-in and call, the hole cards needed to be shown. Zangone quickly walked away from the table.

Dingenen Above the Ton

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

The player on the button raised to 2,600 and was called by Tom Dingenen in the big blind.

The flop came {Q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, Dingenen check-called the 2,800 bet of his opponent.

The turn brought them the {J-Spades}, now Dingenen check-called the 6,700 bet of his opponent.

The river completed the board with the {6-Diamonds} on which they both checked. Dingenen turned over his {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for the turned pair of jacks and that was enough for his opponent to muck his own hand.

One Busted, the Other Reentered

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Unfortunately, Fabian Gumz just busted again when he lost with top pair and top kicker against a set.

A player limped in and Fabian Gumz raised to 3,200 from the hijack with {A-}{10-}. The player in the small blind and the initial limper both called.

The flop came {10-}{6-}{5-} both of Gumz's opponents checked, Gumz continued with a bet of 8,500. The small blind called and the other player folded.

The turn brought them a {7-}, the small blind checked again. Gumz bet 12,500 and the small blind shoved. Gumz called for the 30,000 he had in front of him. His opponent tabled {6-}{6-} for the set of sixes and the river didn't help Gumz in any way. Gumz was sent to the cashier to reenter for tomorrow.

On another table, Harald Sammer took his new seat after having had to reenter.
