Bradley Jansen Wins Gold Ring Two Weeks Before Wedding

Level 6 : 200/400, 400 ante

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is in Milwaukee to live report action the $1,700 Main Event, but is just one of a dozen gold ring events at the stop. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #4: $400 NLH 6-Handed saw 138 runners create a $45,540 prize pool that was paid out to the top 21 players. Among those to cash but fall short of the final table were Craig Trost (10th - $1,108), Cody Brinn (15th - $761), Ben Rock (16th - $761), Nik Stone (18th - $665), and James Pupillo (21st - $604).

Just two weeks before his wedding, it was 33-year-old attorney Bradley Jansen from West Bend, Wisconsin coming out on top to win the title, $12,605 in prize money, and his first gold ring.

“Feels so good. This is my home casino, I love this place and I always feel like I bring my A game here,” said Jansen after his win. “I play to win. I came in second place [in 2017] but chopped for $90,000 and told myself never again. I don’t care what’s up top or if its bar poker, I play to win because I love to play you know, I love the game.”

He continued: “I wasn’t even planning on playing today. I work at 7:30 in the morning and I’m getting married in a few weeks, but my fiancé told me to rip it and here we are, just seems it was meant to be.”

Alba's Straight Wins

Level 5 : 200/300, 300 ante

Craig Trost checked a {7-Hearts}{q-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop from the big blind, and Peter Alba bet 1,500 into a pot of around 3,000 from under the gun. After a third player in the hand folded, Trost check-raised to 4,500. Alba thought for a bit, then called.

Both players checked the {k-Clubs} turn, and Trost bet 3,500 on the {10-Clubs} river. Alba called, and after Trost showed {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for two pair, Alba turned over {q-Clubs}{j-Hearts} for a straight and the winner.

Simon Wins Without Showing

Level 5 : 200/300, 300 ante

Travis Lauson raised to 700 from the cutoff, and was called by the button, as well as John Simon in the big blind.

Simon checked the {8-Hearts}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop to Lauson, who bet 1,100. Both the button and Simon called.

The {10-Clubs} turn was checked by Simon, and Lauson bet 3,200. Only Simon called.

Simon checked a third time on the {j-Spades} river, and Lauson emptied the clip with a bet of 7,000. Simon called, and Lauson flung his hand to the muck without showing. Simon slid his hand to the muck face-down and claimed the pot.

A player raised to 600 from middle position, and Jacob Rich three-bet to 1,800 next to act. Steven Sanzaro called in the small blind, and the middle position player came along as well.

All three players checked the {7-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{j-Hearts} flop, and Sanzaro checked the {8-Hearts} turn. The middle position player bet 3,300, and only Rich called.

Action checked to Rich on the {5-Spades} river, and he placed a single 5k chip in the pot. Rich's opponent quickly called, only to muck after Rich tabled {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is in Milwaukee to live report action the $1,700 Main Event, but is just one of a dozen gold ring events at the stop. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #3: $600 No-Limit Hold’em attracted 87 runners who created a $44,805 prize pool. That was paid out to the top 14 players and among those to cash but fall short of making the final table were Yer Vang (10th - $1,055), Daniel Sarullo (11th - $1,055), Nik Stone (12th - $1,055), Andres Garcia (13th - $935), and Ed Smith (14th - $935).

Craig Trost came into the final table with the chip lead and the 34-year-old from Madison, Wisconsin wound up the winner for $14,834 and his second gold ring.

“I want to say thank you to my very supportive wife. She is amazing and I love her very much,” Trost said with a smile on his face.

Making the experience even more special was that he was at the final table with a good friend of his.

“Jeff Minnerly is a good buddy of mine so it was really fun to make a final table with him as well,” said Trost. “Coming back to the final four, I knew all the guys were really good players. It was really fun playing with them because they are all such great guys which made it such an enjoyable experience.”
