Maahs Gets Sneaky With Aces

Level 9 : 400/800, 800 ante
Kevin Maahs
Kevin Maahs

A player raised to 2,100 from middle position, and was called by 2019 WSOP Main Event fifth-place finisher Kevin Maahs in the hijack. The cutoff three-bet to 6,100, and the big blind called, as did the middle position player. Maahs then four-bet to 27,200, and the cutoff tanked for a few minutes before folding. The big blind called off his last 23,000, and the middle position player folded.

Opponent: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Kevin Maahs: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Maahs improved to a full house by the river of a {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{a-Clubs} board, and he scored the knockout.

Danny Dombrowski Captures First Gold Ring at Home Casino

Level 9 : 400/800, 800 ante
Danny Dombrowski

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is in Milwaukee to live report action the $1,700 Main Event but is just one of a dozen gold ring events at the stop. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

In Event #5: $250 No-Limit Hold’em Multi-Flight, 259 runners created a $51,800 prize pool that was paid out to the top 37 players including Melissa Bryne (16th - $734), David Larson (21st - $505), Chad Graves (26th - $438), Ken Baime (31st - $391), and Richard Pavlat (37th - $34$).

In the end, it was 34-year-old Danny Dombrowski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin finishing as the last player standing for $11,652 and his first ring.

“I know how poker tournaments go,” Dombrowski said after the win. “You need to win anytime you can and it feels great to get this first win under my belt here at my home casino.”

Dombrowski managed to overcome a huge chip disadvantage after a three-hour heads-up match to capture the title.

“I was down to crumbs.” Dombrowski explained. “But this is my home casino. You can’t ever give up. All my friends are here so it’s nice to have the support.”

He added: “The support was truly amazing. I have so many friends that have rings and it feels great that I can join them as ring winners, shout out to the Big Rippers Crew … This is huge accomplishment and I just want to say thank you to my parents who passed away. They were always supportive of me playing poker so I know they would be proud.”

Lauson Check-Raises Hawkins

Level 8 : 300/600, 600 ante

Travis Lauson checked a {9-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop from the big blind, and Maurice Hawkins bet 2,300 from early position. Lauson check-raised to 5,200, and Hawkins called.

The {8-Spades} fell on the turn, and Lauson bet 11,500. Hawkins instantly folded.

Table 8, where both of these players currently reside, has a fearsome lineup already installed, with massive chip leader John Simon, Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler, and reigning MSPT/HPT POY Aaron Johnson all sitting alongside Lauson and Hawkins.

Reichard Can't Shake Off Mallette

Level 8 : 300/600, 600 ante

Quinterol Mallette raised to 1,500 from middle position, and Brett Reichard made the call next to act.

Both players checked through the {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop, and Mallette bet 2,000 on the {8-Diamonds} turn. Reichard called.

Mallette checked the {4-Diamonds} river, and Reichard bet 4,000. Mallette called, and Reichard showed {6-Spades}{3-Spades} for a pair of sixes, while Mallette's {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} for a pair of aces was good enough to take down the pot.

Top Set Earns Raghavan a Double KO

Level 8 : 300/600, 600 ante

Royce Matheson checked a {5-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{q-Clubs} flop from the small blind, and Ravi Raghavan bet 5,000 into a pot of 8,000 from middle position. The hijack jammed for 15,000, Matheson check-shoved for 28,000, and Raghavan called.

Hijack: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Royce Matheson: {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Ravi Raghavan: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

Raghavan was looking to dodge a heart to earn the double KO after the {3-Clubs} turn left the hijack drawing dead. The {2-Spades} river was safe for Raghavan's set of kings, and he knocked out both of his opponents. Matheson re-entered shortly after.

The full {4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{6-Hearts} board was already on the felt, and the under the gun player bet 6,000 into a pot of around 9,000.

Rob Wazwaz tossed four 5k chips in the pot, raising to 20,000. The under the gun player thought for a few moments before calling, only to muck after Wazwaz rolled over {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} for an ace-high flush.

Dietz Gets Paid With Broadway

George Dietz
George Dietz

With a {6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{j-Clubs} board on the felt, George Dietz bet 6,000 into a pot of 9,000 from the small blind, and his lone opponent in middle position made the call.

The {9-Spades} peeled off on the river, and Dietz bet 18,000. Before Dietz's chips could hit the felt, his opponent tossed a chip in the pot to call.

Dietz tabled {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} for the nuts, and his opponent groaned and shook his head before tossing in the 18,000.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is in Milwaukee to live report action the $1,700 Main Event, but is just one of a dozen gold ring events at the stop. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

The stop featured two Senior Events, both of which cost $250 to enter. The first attracted 258 entries and saw a $51,600 prize pool distributed to the top 39 players. Among those to make the money were Jon Driver (35th - $341), Harvey Bundy (30th - $372), John Taylor (20th - $503), James Tessier (14th - $686), and Paul “Big Daddy” Elfelt (7th - $1,626), who actually won a ring in a Seniors event the last time the Circuit visited the venue.

In the end, Sam Rameshk of Milwaukee, Wisconsin bested Illinois’ Gerald Heath in heads-up play to win the title for $11,856 and a gold ring.
