Shainiuk Wins on Turn

Level 5 : 200/300, 300 ante

The dealer fanned a flop of {3-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{8-Clubs} with around 2,600 in the pot and three players with cards in front of themselves. Roman Shainiuk was first to act out of the big blind and bet 2,100. Action was then on Curtis Kowalk, who called from early position. The player on Kowalk's direct left called as well.

The turn came {9-Spades} and Shainiuk continued with another bet for 6,000. Kowalk went into the tank and eventually folded, with the final player left in the hand folding quickly behind him to result in a won pot for Shainiuk.

Perrigo Gets River Fold

Level 4 : 100/200, 200 ante

There was 2,600 in the middle from three-way preflop action between the small blind, Scott Sanders who was under the gun, and Chet Perrigo who was on the button. The flop came {3-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{6-Spades} and the small blind checked. Sanders bet 1,000, getting a call from Perrigo and a fold from the small blind.

Both Sanders and Perrigo then checked the turn {6-Hearts}. The dealer burned and turned the river {k-Hearts} and Sanders checked again. Perrigo bet 3,000, sending Sanders into the tank for about a minute before letting his cards go.

Shaked Snaps Off a Bluff

Level 4 : 100/200, 200 ante

With {5-Clubs}{10-Spades}{q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} on the board, Jared Shipley put out a 6,000 bet from the big blind.

Omri Shaked, under the gun, tanked for a bit before making the call, showing {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. "Good call," said Shipley, who showed the {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}.

"These Chips Will Be Put Into Play, Though!"

Pat Lyons
Pat Lyons

Pat Lyons was seen in the poker room last night deep in a satellite to today's Main Event in which he was one of 23 players to qualify for the tournament today. His stack had been in play since cards began to fly at noon, however, he was only seen entering the tournament about 15 minutes ago.

His starting stack of 30,000 had gone down to 26,100, but he wasn't worried: "These chips will be put into play, though!" he exclaimed.

It appears the start of his day has him trending in a direction, though, as he was just seen with a stack size of around half that of the starting stack. Stay tuned.

A Loaded Table

Level 4 : 100/200, 200 ante

Brett Murray's voice was heard as he was walking towards Table 13. The nine-seat was vacant at the time, though Murray was headed in that direction with a receipt to match it. He found himself at a table with two players he knows quite well, with friends Alex Greenblatt and Ian Steinman already at the table. Though the trio of players from Northern California have been friends for years, they get to go to battle against one another at the felt on Day 1b here inside the Thunder Valley Poker Room.

Another player who registered just after the first break of the day was Farhad Sinaei, who has taken his seat at the same table as the likes of Billy Le, Traci Brown, and Careen Foster.

Dialysis Technician Dennis Arciosa Ships Event #4: $400 NLH (One-Day)

Level 4 : 100/200, 200 ante

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at Thunder Valley to live report action from both the $1,700 Main Event and $3,250 High Roller, but those are just a couple of the dozen gold ring events at the stop. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

In Event #4: $400 NLH (One-Day), 85 entries saw a $30,000 prize pool paid out to the top 13 players. Among those to cash but fall short of the final table were Michael McDonough (10th - $666), Sasha Sabbaghian (11th - $666), Sheila Triggs (12th - $666), and Peter Pham (13th - $605).

In the end, dialysis technician Dennis Arciosa emerged as the last player standing for $9,084 and his first gold ring.

“I feel great. I felt focused from start to end. I never lost focus,” he said after the win.

According to WSOP officials, Arciosa flopped a set of fives against his opponent’s aces, managed to get full value, and became unstoppable after this.

“That’s what started the whole thing. I ran really good after that hand. I got lucky.”

Spunt's Stack Increases

Level 4 : 100/200, 200 ante

Masoud Shojaei opened to 600 in middle position, ans got three callers.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, the action checked to Shojaei, and he bet 1,300. Only Steven Shunt, on the hijack, called.

The turn came {2-Hearts}, Shojaei checked and Shunt bet 2,400, getting the call. Both players checked the {9-Diamonds} river, and Shunt's {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} took down the pot against Shojaei's {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

Scott Chips Up After Break

Level 4 : 100/200, 200 ante

Ian Steinman was on the button and three-bet to 3,300 over a hijack open to 700 and a call from the cutoff. Jason Scott cold four-bet out of the small blind to 11,000. Action folded back around to Steinman and he thought for a while before pushing his cards forward onto the felt, resulting in the hand being sent to Scott.

A few hands later, Scott opened from the hijack and was called by players on the button and in the big blind. The flop came {q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and both the big blind and Scott checked. The player on the button fired 1,000, getting a fold from the big blind. Scott called.

The turn came {4-Spades} and Scott again checked to his opponent on the button, who continued with another 1,700. Scott called. The river fell {5-Spades} and action went check-check to take the hand to showdown.

Scott tabled {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for two pair, eights and deuces, and his opponent mucked to earn him a second pot in the first same orbit.
