Nguyen Turns Tens Full to Scoop Monster Pot

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

In a four-way pot, there was roughly 18,000 in the middle and the action checked to Josh Reichard in the cutoff who bet 8,000, William Nguyen called on the button and the big blind called before Rakesh Patel let his hand go.

The turn was the {10-Diamonds} and the big blind checked once again to Reichard who fired in a bet of 21,000. Nguyen asked how much the big blind had left and made the call, and the big blind called off their remaining 21,000 to be all in.

The river was the {9-Hearts} and Reichard continued for 21,000 which Nguyen raised to 52,000. Reichard went into the tank for 15-seconds before ultimately deciding to let the hand go.

"Turned it," said Nguyen as he tabled {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} and the big blind tabled his flopped trips with {7-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and was eliminated from the tournament.

Prociak Triples with Cowboys

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

David Prociak open-jammed for his last 8,000 and found two callers from late position.

The flop fell {5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Prociak got isolation after one opponent bet the other out of the pot.

David Prociak: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Opponent: {x-}{x-}

The board completed with the {q-Diamonds} turn and the {4-Clubs} river giving Prociak the much-needed triple up.

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Kyle Birdwell open-jammed for roughly 48,000 and was called by David Prociak from the big blind.

Kyle Birdwell: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
David Prociak: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}

Birdwell had Prociak crushed and nothing changed after the {6-Spades}{8-Spades}{q-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Spades} run out giving him the double.

Ducks Hold for Reichard; Doubles Through Rettenmaier

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Marvin Rettenmaier
Marvin Rettenmaier

Josh Reichard opened for 5,000 from the hijack and Marvin Rettenmaier three-bet to 16,500 from the small blind. Action folded back to Reichard who four-bet jammed and was called by Rettenmaier.

Josh Reichard: {2-Clubs}{2-Spades}
Marvin Rettenmaier: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

The flop came out all red but it was the wrong suit for Rettenmaier falling {3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.

The {10-Hearts} turn was no help to Rettenmaier nor was the {j-Spades} river and he sent 93,500 over to Reichard for the double up.

Jeff Hood Wins First Ring in Event #6: $400 NLH Turbo

While PokerNews is here offering live updates from the Main Event and High Roller, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about the full schedule of side events that have been playing out over the past week at the World Series of Poker Circuit Choctaw Durant.

In Event #6: $400 NLH Turbo, 255 runners created a $84,1500 prize pool that was paid out to the top 40 players. Among those to cash but fall short of the final table were Michael Clements (11th - $1,347), Daniel Lowery (13th - $1,118), Oscar Penn (17th - $948), James Baune (33rd - $556), and Robert Keeling (37th - $551).

In the end, it was 53-year old Austin, Texas native Jeff Hood who earned $19,338 along with his first gold ring in the process.

“That was my first tournament [series] I went to,” Hood mentioned, referring to the most recent Rio Circuit in Las Vegas. “That one, I should have been more aggressive. Seventh was great, but this feels really good to get this ring.”

Final-table finishes can leave players yearning for what could have been. This time around it was nothing but satisfaction for Hood who is relatively new to the world of poker.

“I started playing about three years ago,” Hood disclosed. “We have a kind of game in our office a guy invited me to. He mentored me. Steve Rosser is his name. Read a lot of books. Took Negreanu’s Master Class. Read a lot of stuff and got good experience.”

Although young in practice, Hood has been diligent with his studies since entering the poker scene. Only three years in and the semi-retired Patent Lawyer has already reached the WSOP gold ring club.

Patel's Kings Hold Agianst Sudeck

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

All of the chips went in the middle before the flop and Rakesh Patel was at risk for 28,400 against Cole Sudeck.

Cole Sudeck: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Rakesh Patel: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Patel was looking to dodge the ace and the flop was safe when it came {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades}. The turn was the {q-Hearts} giving Sudeck a queen to hit as well but the river was a brick when the {3-Hearts} came and Patel doubled through Sudeck.
