Mangroe Hits the Runner-Runner to Stay Alive

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Firoz Mangroe
Firoz Mangroe

The flop read {5-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} when the player in the small blind bet 5,000. Firoz Mangroe raised to 10,000 in the early position and Taoufik Ahkim three-bet to 15,000 in the cutoff. The small blind shoved and Magroe did the same for 39,000 in total. Ahkim called with the biggest stack.

Small Blind: {4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Firoz Mangroe: {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Taoufik Ahkim: {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Ahkim had flopped top two pair while both the small blind and Mangroe had the flush draw but the small blind also had the gutshot to a straight flush.

The rest of the board was completed with the {6-Hearts} on the turn and the {6-Spades} on the river for Mangroe to hit a runner-runner to trips to stay alive and eliminate the small blind while earning a full double-up through Ahkim.

Burns Busts

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Simon Burns was seen leaving the tournament area but was still willing to explain what had happened during the previous level:

He opened to 2,200 on the button with {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} with a stack worth twenty big blinds and was called by both players in the blind.

The flop came {5-}{6-}{9-} with one club. Jerome Riverola in the small blind checked, the big blind bet 3,000 and was called by both Burns and Riverola.

They all checked through the {4-} for the {a-} to complete the board on the river. It was checked to Burns who decided to shove for around 75% of the pot. riverola snap-called and the big blind folded for Riverola to reveal {8-}{6-} offsuit for the pair of sixes to catch Burns' bluff.

Messina Hits a Runner-Runner Straight Flush

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Renato Messina
Renato Messina

Renato Messina had just played the biggest pot of the tournament up till now and his table mate was kind enough to relay the information.

Messina had opened from the early position for 1,800 and was called by four other players to go five-way to the flop which was the {10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. It was checked to the player on the button who bet 5,000 and only Messina called.

The turn was the {q-Clubs} and both players checked.

The river completed the board with the {9-Clubs}, Messina fired a bet of 18,000 over the line and the player on the button shoved for around 100,000. Messina snap-called with {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for the runner-runner straight flush and saw he was good as his opponent had {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for the turned full house.

Table #14 was broken up in the meanwhile and Taoufik Ahkim has taken his seat on Messina's left for the two biggest stacks in the room to be seated next to each other.
