Ahkim Loses Hand; Still in Chip Lead

Level 9 : 400/800, 800 ante

The player in the under-the-gun position raised to 3,100 and was called by Taoufik Ahkim in the middle position and the player in the big blind.

They all checked through the {2-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} flop to the {10-Hearts} on the turn. The big blind checked again and now the under-the-gun player shoved for 6,200. Ahkim made the call with {8-Spades}{8-Hearts} while the big blind folded. The shover had {2-Spades}{2-Hearts} for the flopped set.

The river completed the board with the {k-Hearts} which didn't change as Ahkim's opponent doubled up. Even after paying up the double, Ahkim still has a more than healthy stack of around 200,000.

Mertens Keeps Adding Chips

Level 8 : 300/600, 600 ante
Eric Mertens
Eric Mertens

Eric Mertens raised to 1,300 from the early position and was called by the player in the middle position and Zhong Chen in the cutoff. The player on the button tanked for a while before three-betting to 4,800. The blinds quickly folded while the rest all called.

The flop came {4-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, it was checked around to the player on the button who continued with a bet of 6,100. Mertens took a few seconds before making the call while the rest folded.

The turn was the {q-Hearts}, Mertens check-called the 12,000 continuation-bet of his opponent.

The river completed the board with the {a-Clubs}. Both players quickly checked for Mertens to scoop the pot with {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for top two pair.

Neys Takes Kampen Out

Level 8 : 300/600, 600 ante
Mikos Kampen
Mikos Kampen

Wim Neys had quite an increased stack after the break and was kind enough to relay what had happened just before the break.

Neys had opened from under the gun with {4-}{4-} and was called by Mikos Kampen in the hijack and the player on the button.

The flop came {a-Spades}{4-Spades}{4-} for Neys to hit quads. Neys continued with a bet of 1,200 and Kampen was the only one to make the call.

The turn was a blank, Neys bet again, this time 4,300 and Kampen called again.

The river completed the board with the {j-Clubs}, Neys overbet-shoved for 22,000 and Kampen tank-called with a stack of 22,300. Kampen had {3-}{3-} to be left with a mere 300 which he lost shortly after.

As Level 8 is the last level for players to late-reg or reenter, Kampen jumped back in immediately.

Martini Makes the Wrong Call

Level 7 : 300/500, 500 ante

The board read {5-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{j-Hearts} and Bram Uittenbogaard had bet 5,700 from the big blind and Gregor Prizmic Martini was considering his options for a while in the early position.

After a while, Martini said: "I am just wondering if I should raise or just call. I have a really strong hand..."

Uittenbogaard shrugged: "Just play your game,".

Martini put in the chip for just a call and Uittenbogaard tabled {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} for the flopped set of aces. Martini rapped the table and mucked his hand while complimenting Uittenbogaard on his hand.

"You should have raised, I'd snap-call," Uittenbogaard added.
