Ruzicka Takes Overall Lead on Day 1b; Kassouf and Alexandridis Bag Big Stacks

Level 9 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Vojtech Ruzicka

The third edition of the 2022 World Series of Poker International Circuit €1,700 Main Event at the King's Resort in Rozvadov has edged within eyesight of surpassing the €1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool after yet another busy day in Europe's biggest poker arena. Another 333 entries were recorded, consisting of 249 unique players and 84 re-entries, and that brought the overall field to 640 entries.

That's just eight entries shy of the attendance during the last WSOP International Circuit King's €1,700 Main Event back in April 2022 and there is very little doubt that the number will be surpassed without a hitch. Whether or not the 808 entries of the January edition can be reached remains to be seen, as the late registration and re-entry period remains open for another two 60-minute levels on Day 2.

Only 137 players survived the nine 60-minute levels at the King's Resort and the overall leaderboard received a fresh facelift. Former WSOP Main Event finalist Vojtech Ruzicka jumped into the overall lead with 451,300 in chips followed by Levente Pal (428,600). There is a large gap to third-placed Dawid Smolka (330,300), who also toppled the Day 1a chip leader Narcis Nedelcu as well.

Another familiar face in the overnight top ten is the UK's William Kassouf, who claimed 278,400 to his name. During the late stages of the evening, he first doubled through Do Tran and then knocked out Natale Allegra when his nine-eight suited flopped the nuts against pocket kings. Kassouf advanced in sixth place on the Day 1b leaderboard just ahead of 2021 EPT Prague Main Event finalist Symeon Alexandridis (276,300), Nicola Angelini (293,900) and Clayde Terlaan (271,000) are also well-known names on the European live poker circuit as well.

The WSOP bracelet winners Vangelis Kaimakamis (178,400), Matous Skorepa (136,000) and Ori Hasson (91,100) all advanced and kept their hopes of potentially adding another WSOP title to their resume alive. They were joined in the list of survivors by Raul van Boxtel, WSOP Circuit ring event winner Dorian Melchers, Tonino Schmitz, Jan Bednar, Tobias Peters, Raoul Refos, and Aliaksandr Shylko to name all but a few familiar faces.

Not as fortunate were Pierre Neuville, Georges Sultanem, Michael Magalashvili, Thomas Hofmann, Timo Kamphues, Roberto Manfredi, Claudio Di Giacomo, Abdelhakim Zoufri, Claudio Di Giacomo, Artan Dedusha, and former WSOP Circuit King's Main Event champion Andrea Ricci.

They all can take advantage of the extended late registration period on Day 2, which kicks off at 2pm local time on Sunday, October 9, 2022. For the first two hours and following 15-minute break, the blinds will continue at 1,000-2,000 and a big blind ante of 2,000. Two re-entries are allowed for all those seeking to take another shot at the promising seven-figure prize pool.

On top of the cash prizes, the top 12 finishers will also take home an entry into the 2022 WSOP Europe €10,350 Main Event in November 2022. More than 200 players already unlocked their seats during major live poker festivals at King's Resort and that number will be nearly doubled with upcoming events and live satellite qualifiers.

Stay tuned for more poker action from the Czech Republic as the PokerNews live reporting team will be there until a winner is crowned on the live-streamed final table on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

Allegra Runs Into Nine-High Like a Boss

Level 9 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
William Kassouf
William Kassouf

William Kassouf faced a bet worth 25,000 by Natale Allegra on the {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop and raised it up to 65,000. Allegra pushed all-in and was snap-called for a very specific reason.

Natale Allegra: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
William Kassouf: {9-Spades}{8-Spades}

Only a miracle could keep Allegra alive as he needed running cards for a full house. Instead, Kassouf further improved to a flush with the {5-Spades}{q-Spades} runout on turn and river to end Day 1b with a decent stack.

"Nine high like a boss, it's my hand ... I got my chips in ahead," the jovial Brit concluded.

Ruzicka Scores Double Knockout to Take the Lead

Level 9 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Vojtech Ruzicka
Vojtech Ruzicka

With a massive pot of some 180,000 to the {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts} river, Tobias Fischer pushed all-in from the small blind for 70,000.

Vojtech Ruzicka moved all-in over the top and that put Helmut Phung into the tank. He eventually called it off as the second-biggest stack in the showdown and Fischer tabled {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for a second.

That, however, was instantly mucked when Ruzicka exposed his {a-Spades}{10-Spades}. A depleted Phung showed {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and left the table with a perplexed expression. "I can't give him a ten there, maybe jacks or queens ... ."

Refos Prevails in Three-Way All-In Contest

Level 9 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Raoul Refos
Raoul Refos

The cards on the "Dutch home game table" were on their backs already with Roberto Manfredi and Raoul Refos at risk against Raul van Boxtel.

Roberto Manfredi: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Raoul Refos: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Raul van Boxtel: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The {5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop changed nothing but Manfredi took the lead on the {k-Spades} turn. However, Refos got there with the {q-Diamonds} river and nearly tripled up for 35,100 as he had Manfredi narrowly covered.

Usta Busts With Zero Equity

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Ibrahim Usta
Ibrahim Usta

In a limp-raised three-way pot to the {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop, it checked to Ibrahim Usta in the cutoff and he pushed all-in for around 32,000. Dawid Smolka in the small blind check-jammed and Riadh Ben Farhat had the easiest all-in call of his poker career thus far.

Ibrahim Usta: {6-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
Riadh Ben Farhat: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Dawid Smolka: {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Smolka had one out but bricked the {10-Clubs} turn as well as the {j-Diamonds} river, while Ben Farhat more than doubled with the elimination of Usta.

Hanel Eliminated in Large Pot Against Ju

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Jaromir Hanel
Jaromir Hanel

The action started with a raise to 2,600 by Ingo Paulus and Jaromir Hanel made it 7,500 to go, which Samuel Ju called, while Paulus folded.

Following a flop of {j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, Ju checked and Hanel bet 8,800. A massive check-raise to 54,000 by Ju followed and he then snap-called the shove by Hanel for around 130,000.

Jaromir Hanel: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Samuel Ju: {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}

Neither the {7-Clubs} turn nor the {3-Clubs} river came to the rescue for Hanel and Ju skyrocketed to the top of the leaderboard.

Pal Doubles Through Duerschlag

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Levente Pal
Levente Pal

With some 17,000 in the middle and the flop showing {j-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, Christian Duerschlag bet 6,500 and Levente Pal then raised to 20,000. Duerschlag pushed all-in and Pal called it off rather swiftly within a few seconds.

Levente Pal: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Christian Duerschlag: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

Duerschlag's gutshot straight flush draw had a ton of outs but bricked the {8-Spades} turn and {8-Clubs} river. "Top pair top kicker," Pal shrugged while the dealer counted his double for 107,600.

Duerschlag had a few chips left but lost those momentarily.

Mauerhoff Eliminated by Smolka

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Dawid Smolka
Dawid Smolka

Uwe Mauerhoff was all-in already and awaited his fate on a flop of {k-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades}. Dawid Smolka then bet to isolate and the cards were flipped over.

Uwe Mauerhoff: {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Dawid Smolka: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

The {9-Hearts} turn and {10-Hearts} river brought running hearts and Mauerhoff sighed "wrong ten" before heading to the rail.

Ruzicka Doubles Through Van Boxtel

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Vojtech Ruzicka
Vojtech Ruzicka

On the completed board of {10-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Spades}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades} with exactly 37,000 in the middle, Vojtech Ruzicka pushed all-in for 31,700. Raul van Boxtel was his sole remaining opponent and asked the dealer to spread the pot while he was in the tank.

Ultimately, the Dutchman called and Ruzicka tabled the {k-Spades}{9-Spades} for a flush. "He can have everything there, ace king ..." van Boxtel said as he had exposed the {6-Spades}{4-Diamonds} for a hero-call gone wrong.

Schmitz Out and Back In

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Tonino Schmitz
Tonino Schmitz

"I saw his watch and then it was obvious what to do," Leon Rewald joked after he had just knocked out Tonino Schmitz. The latter pushed into a squeeze worth 30,000 by Rewald and was snap-called for the following preflop showdown.

Tonino Schmitz: {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Leon Rewald: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

"It's coming anyways," Schmitz joked but the {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop had him on the brink of elimination. It was all over on the {3-Clubs} turn to make the {j-Spades} river a formality.

"No worries, I will be right back, re-entry," Schmitz said with a grin on the face.
