Nacho Barbero Tops the Counts Heading into Day 2 of WSOP-C Madrid

"I fired a bullet in the tournament and bagged chipleader," Nacho Barbero said on social media last night. What a nice way to sum things up after he ended Day 1d with the largest stack among the 140 remaining players in the €1,500 World Series of Poker Circuit Madrid Main Event at Casino Gran Vía.

Out of a field of 918 entries, these players are now all in the money and will try to make it to the final table this Saturday. However, there is still a long way to go, even if some players got off to a good start, such as Ricardo Hernandez Montalvo (1,200,000), Joao Cardoso Novais (980,000) and Andoni Larrabe Sanchez (764,000), who each bagged the chip lead in their respective flights.

On their way to the title, however, many players will stand in their way, starting with Rene Lazaro Cifuentes (785,000), Ignacio Molina (711,000) and Cristobal Ochoa (664,000).

After taking down the High Roller earlier this week, Pierre Calamusa (434,000) is still in contention for another ring. He is followed by Kyle Julius (429,000), Tom-Aksel Bedell (349,000), who sits on the average stack, poker reporter Fausto Munz (284,000), Daniel Eichhorn (217,000), Serafim Kovalevskiy (204,000) and Andrey Golubev (198,000).

Ryan Plant doubled up in the final hands of Day 1a to secure his place on Day 2 with 182,000, just one big blind more than Norberto Lopez Rodriguez (179,000), WSOP bracelet winner Arnaud Enselme (176,000) and Antonios Onoufriou (171,000).

Among the shortest stacks are David Nus Carrizo (108,000), Aliaksandr Shylko (106,000), Magnus Edengren (81,000) and Jorge Ufano (70,000), while Ahmet Kalebas brings up the rear with just 15,000. They will need to double up quickly to get back on track.

Play resumes this Saturday, October 31, at 12:30 p.m. local time, with blinds at 5,000/10,000 and a 10,000 big blind ante. Levels will now last 60 minutes. All 140 remaining players are guaranteed a minimum cash of €3,000 from the €1,164,942 total prize pool, but the detailed payouts will only be revealed at the restart.
