Sisson's Nine Lives

If you followed our Day 1 coverage late last night, you might recall a desperately short-stacked player who received a one-round F-bomb penalty that left him with just 2,000 in chips.

That player was Rudy Sisson of Sacramento, CA. Rudy started the day as the tournament's short stack and found himself all in quite early this afternoon, holding pocket fours against chip leader Kevin Vanderbeek's {6-Spades}{7-Spades}.

By the turn, things weren't looking good for Rudy, as the board read {J-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. Before the river, Vanderbeek yelled out, "No seven!" - the only card Sisson could hit to stay alive. Then . . . presto! The {7-Hearts} fell off on the end, giving Sissom a straight and new hope to stretch his Day 2 a bit longer.

Sylvester "Vesty" Geoghegan had this to say to Sisson after the hand: "You're like bubble gum stuck to the shoe . . . impossible to get rid of!"
