Harveys Lake Tahoe
Harveys Lake Tahoe
Day 1 play from Harveys Lake Tahoe has officially come to an end. The players who survived the day will return tomorrow at 12:00 noon PST for Day 2 play.

Day 1 saw a number of big names hit the rail, including Kathy Liebert, J.C. Tran, Scott Clements, Kirk Morrison, Brian Wilson, Dan Harmetz, Marc Karam, and Jonathan Little. 2006 Harveys Lake Tahoe Main Event Champion Clint Baskin was also a Day 1 casualty.

Among those returning tomorrow are 2000 WSOP Main Event Champion Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, two-time WSOP bracelet winner and consummate tournament pro Hans "Tuna" Lund, and 2005 WSOP Main Event finalist Aaron Kanter. Kevin Vanderbeek owns the tournament's top stack with 88,000 in chips.

We hope you'll join us tomorrow at noon PST for our continued coverage of the Harveys Lake Tahoe WSOPC Main Event as we play down to the final nine contestants.

Until then, good night and good luck!

Vanderbeek Eliminates Opponent; Takes Chip Lead

Kevin Vanderbeek has quietly moved to the top of the leaderboard over the last couple of hours and just added a few more chips to his field-leading stack, after eliminating an opponent from the tournament in the final minutes of level seven.

Vanderbeek's pocket queens held up over his opponent's pocket jacks in a preflop all-in confrontation; the board filled out {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}.

The hand brought Vanderbeek over the 80,000 mark in chips and he is the unofficial chip leader heading into Day 2. We'll have the official counts posted for you momentarily.

Third Penalty at Table 44

The player in seat three on table 44 has been issued a penalty by the tournament staff for using the F-word -- this, the third penalty given at this table today.

We're not sure who's sitting there, but the penalty will be detrimental to his stack, as he has less than 4,000 in chips and will have to post both blinds and 800 worth of antes while he's gone, effectively relieving him of half his stack.

Scott Clements Railed by Quads

Scott Clements
Scott Clements
Scott Clements was just eliminated from the tournament by Michael Beisner, who sent Clements to the rail after making quad tens; here's how the hand went down:

A player in early position limped in for 800 and when the action got around to Clements, he open-shoved for a total of 11,100. Beisner, sitting on the button with pocket tens, made the call and the limper got out of their way.

Clements showed the {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and was in bad shape against Beisner's pocket tens. The flop came {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}{10-Hearts}, hitting both players hard, though Clements would need an ace, a three, or have the river pair the turn in order to double up and stay alive.

The rest of the board filled out {6-Hearts}, {10-Clubs} giving Beisner quad tens and the checkmark for the hand, eliminating Clements from the Main Event.
