Widely considered “The Most Beautiful” stop on the tour by tournament poker aficionados, the 2007 Harvey’s Lake Tahoe World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit Main Event Championship kicks off this Friday, November 16 at 12:00 noon PST. 2000 WSOP Main Event champion Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson is expected to attend, along with a solid group of local pros, each hoping to claim their share of a prizepool expected to reach upwards of $1 million dollars.

Organizers of the 2007 version of the Harvey’s Lake Tahoe circuit event anticipate a larger field than last year, as the buy-in has been lowered from $10,000 to $5,000 in an effort to increase attendance. Still, the WSOP main event-sized buy-in at last year’s Lake Tahoe event attracted several of poker’s biggest names, including Ferguson, Barry Greenstein, Dan Harrington, “Miami” John Cernuto, Allen Cunningham, Daniel Negreanu, Erik Seidel, J.C. Tran, Billy Baxter, Bob Stupak and John Juanda.

In the end, however, the only big name player at the final table was J.C. Tran, who posted a sixth place finish, good for a $62,040 payday. The top prize, $372,240 and a buy-in to the 2007 WSOP main event, was claimed by then 32-year-old plumber Clint Baskin. A poker player of 25 years (originally taught how to play by his great-grandmother), Baskin bested a field of 110 entrants en route to winning the largest poker prize of his life.

The 2007 Harvey’s Lake Tahoe WSOP Circuit Championship is scheduled for three days, with the final table set to take place at 2:00 p.m. on November 18. Who will emerge victorious when the final card is dealt this Sunday? Join us starting at noon local time this Friday, live from Harvey’s Lake Tahoe to find out!
