Theo Tran Keeps on Truckin'

Theo Tran's stack keeps inching up in this event. His latest encounter brings his chip count up to 32,600. Tran raised 700 under the gun and was called by the BB. The ragged (7-4-2) flop was checked. Tran's opponent led out with a 1000 bet when an eight turned. Tran called. Both players checked the river queen. Tran took the pot with a better ace-high: his A-J to his opponent's A-5.

Single Oversized Chip

The blinds are 100/200. It is folded around to the small blind, who throws out a 500 chip.

The dealer rules it as a raise and the big blind explodes, saying, "He didn't say anything, he has to announce raise!" and calls for the floor. The floor rules that the 500 chip is a single oversized chip and it's taken as a call, as there was no announcement of the intent to raise.

The small blind tilts, claiming he wanted to raise, and moves all in when the flop comes {6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{9-Spades}.

The big blind insta-calls and tables {9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}.

The small blind has {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}.

The turn card is the {2-Spades} and the river is the {9-Diamonds} giving the big blind a full house. The small blind is down to 600 in chips.

Whiplash

The start of the short-handed game was fast and furious. Within an hour of the start, the taxi line outside the Rio grew long as players busted out faster than cabs could arrive. But the event has settled into a much slower groove. I suspect the cabs are the ones waiting now...

Theo Tran's Trips

On a flop of {J-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}, a middle-position and late-position player check to Theo Tran, who bets 700. Both call. The turn is {2-Clubs}. The middle position checks to the late position, who bets 1300. Tran and the MP call. The river is {8-Diamonds}. MP checks and LP bets 2700. Tran calls and the MP folds. Tran has {8-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for trips and the LP mucks. Tran has 28,750.
