Just Announced: Play Per Day

In light of the extremely long days last year, this year's event has been extended to a five-day event. After a talk with Howard Lederer, Jack Effel has just announced that the plan is to play 18 levels today (nine hours), and 15 levels every day after this (Jack also announced that is subject to change based on the amount of players remaining each day).

Tony G Mixing It Up

Tony G just took down a pot with a bet on 4th street after Justin "ZeeJustin" Bonomo folded. As Tony dragged the pot he quipped "I didn't have much of a hand....just thought I'd take that one down for fun." Bonomo seemed relatively uninterested.

"I've Got John Phan.."

Mike Matusow is yelling across to the next table to Barry Greenstein. "I've got no one that's gonna give me chips at my table," Matusow says, looking around his table. "Oh wait. I've got John Phan."

Other members of Matusow's table: Carlos Mortensen, Darrell Dicken, Chau Giang, Matt Lefkowitz and Thor Hansen.

Three of the World's Most Amazing Couples

In the most prestigious and expensive event in the World of Poker, there are only three couples competing today --- Bob and Maureen Feduniak, Harry and Jerri Thomas and Jennifer Harman Traniello and Marco Traniello.

Bob and Maureen have been regulars in the world's biggest tournaments for several years. They are the most modest and gracious people on earth. Their philanthropic deeds in life are amazing, and both are well known by every great poker pro on the circuit. Maureen is one of only four recipients in the world to receive the Brian Saltus Award (the other recipients were Robert Williamson III, Barry Greenstein and Linda Johnson).

Harry and Jerri Thomas are, like the Feduniaks, at the "top of the class." They have taken their poker accomplishments into rare territory: Harry Thomas won a gold bracelet in Seven Card Stud at the World Series of Poker in 1985 and his wife, Jerri, also won the Seven Card Stud at the World Series of Poker in 2000. (The only other couple to each ever win a W.S.O.P. gold bracelet is Max and Maria Stern.)

Marco and his wife Jennifer Harman Traniello are our third and youngest couple in the competion today. Jennifer's accomplishments in poker are ledgendary. She has won two W.S.O.P. bracelets and is the only woman in the world who has consistentely beat the big cash-game players at the Bellagio. Her handsome husband Marco, is one of the most pleasant people you could ever talk to, and is fast becoming a world-class poker player himself. These three amazing couples are absolutely in a league of their own. We will all have fun watching their progress throughout this event competing against the other all-stars of poker.

Girl Power!

Today's field features just seven women. Annie Duke, Isabelle Mercier, Maureen Feduniak, Jerri Thomas, Kristy Gazes, Jennifer Harman Traniello and Cyndy Violette all have their eye on this coveted title.

Brunson Seat Change

When Todd Brunson strolled in, he realized he was assigned to the same table as his father Doyle. To remove any concerns, the Brunsons thought it best for Todd to get reassigned. Todd doesn't exactly love his new draw, though, as he was relocated to Phil Ivey's left.

A Fitting Nickname

Several of the players here are showcasing their unique personalities, none moreso than Mike "The Mouth" Matusow. Perhaps marketing himself to the sea of spectators, we can't go more than a minute or two without hearing Matusow stand up and yell something that has nothing to do with poker....but I guess that's why he's "The Mouth."
