Laak Doubles Through Corkins

Phil Laak
Phil Laak
The action folded around to Phil Laak, who min-raised from the button. Hoyt Corkins then made it 9,600 to go from the small blind, after which Laak moved all-in for his last 15,450. Hoyt made the call and turned over {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, while Laak showed pocket Aces.

The board filled out {J-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Spades} {7-Spades} {2-Spades} and Laak's Aces held up, bringing his chip count to approximately 38,000 after the hand.

Sorel Catches a Break; Eliminates Chau Giang

Heads-up against Chau Giang, Sorel reraised a 2,300 preflop bet from Giang and made it 6,000 more to go; Chau called.

The flop came {7-Spades}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and Sorel bet 9,000 putting Chau all-in. Chau made the call and turned over {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and was ahead of Mizzi, who showed {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}. Unfortunately for Chau, Sorel spiked the {Q-Spades} on the turn, which spelled the end for Giang.

After the hand, Sorel stacked up 59,000 chips.

Corkins Doubles Up

Hoyt Corkins just doubled through an opponent, hitting top pair on the flop holding {Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs} on a board of {4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}; his opponent had pocket 8's and failed to improve on the turn or river.

Hoyt now has over 50,000 chips and climbing.

Hachem Doubles with Aces

Joe Hachem just survived a preflop all-in duel against an opponent who went to battle with pocket 10's (one a club). Hachem showed {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}.

The board came {7-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, giving Hachem an Ace-high flush on the turn, but his opponent swapped his outs. Instead of the two remaining 10's in the deck, he now needed either the 6 or Jack of clubs to make a straight flush.

He would get neither, as the {Q-Hearts} fell on the river giving Hachem the checkmark for the hand.

Joe now has 13,000 chips.

Hellmuth Relocated

Following the break, Phil Hellmuth was moved to table 50, where four of the five players already sitting there are young, "Internet" types.

The move forced an involuntary cease fire between Justin Bonomo and Hellmuth who, before the break, exchanged a few words while sitting at the same table.

We'll let you know how Phil reacts to his new table, which is loaded with players of Bonomo's demographic.
