Montel Williams
Montel Williams
One of the players in today's field has led an amazing life. That's Montel Williams. He's wearing a Navy hat that says USS Eisenhower and he definitely has command of his table with 50K in chips. Williams is playing great in his first WSOP Main Event.

Williams graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1980 with a degree in engineering. He spent almost 22 years in military service, most of it as a Naval Intelligence officer. His duties were multifaceted, including intense intelligence work on a nuclear submarine.

Williams studied both Russian and Mandarin Chinese during his time in the service. He served on board the USS Sampson during the U.S. invasion of Grenada. He eventually retired as a Lieutenant Commander and awarded distinctions such as the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, a Navy Achievement Medal, a Navy Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service Medals. He retired after 22 years' service.

After the service, Williams spent a couple of years as a motivational speaker. He was able to travel around the world and help people. That eventually led to his spot as a host as the Montel Williams Show. His show just finished its 16th season which is remarkable in television. His run has been exceptional.

Montel Williams has been involved with numerous charities over the years including helping to raise money and awareness for multiple sclerosis after he was diagnosed with MS a few years ago. The affliction has not slowed him down.
