Cohen Still In

Stud 8:

French bracelet winner Claude Cohen has doubled through Ming "Joy" Reslock. Reslock called Cohen's all in on sixth street with two pair and a flush draw. Cohen was holding trip sevens. Neither player improved on seventh street, and Cohen doubles up to 26,000, while Reslock drops down to 34,000.

Miami John Takes One off Benson

Omaha 8:

I didn't quite catch who the aggressor was, but in a three-way pot, Gary Benson, Bill Gazes and John Cernuto all see the turn of a {Q-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{J-Hearts} board.

Checked around, the river is a {5-Spades}, which leads to a check from Gazes, a check from Benson, but a bet of 4,000 from Cernuto. Gazes folds, but Benson goes into the tank.

Seemingly faced with a torturous decision, Benson looks as though he's about to call, but hesitates, resting his head on his hand as he runs through the tale of the tape.

Again, Benson counts out the 4,000, but stops, scratching his head in the process. Eventually he concedes "It's just too much" and throws in the chips, but quickly mucks upon seeing his foe's {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{A-Spades}{J-Spades} for the eight high flush.

As a result, Gazes and Benson drop to 15,000 and 37,500 respectively.

Racener Scoops

Scott Clements

Omaha 8:

Sometimes in split poker, it takes a big hand to win in both directions, and that's what John Racener required when he clashed with multiple bracelet winner Scott Clements.

Preflop, Racener opened the action, Clements raised and Racener called.

Then on the {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop, World War III erupted: Racener's opening bet leading to a total of five raises and an eventual all in from Racener, which was subsequently called by Clements.

Racener = {A-Spades}{2-Spades}{3-Spades}{7-Hearts}
Clements = {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{3-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

Turn = {8-Diamonds}

River = {6-Hearts}

Racener scoops the lot with quad sevens and an A-2-6-7-8 low to topple Clements aces full and A-3-6-7-8 low -- a classic nuts & nuts versus second nuts & second nuts confrontation.

Whilst Clements is cold-decked down to to 16,000, Racener jumps up to 21,000.

Changing of the Guards

During the last level, Michael Mizrachi took a number of hits that saw his stack drop to the 60-65,000 mark. As a result, we have a new chip leader, who, at first glance, appears to be Greg Pappas with just over 95,000.

Meanwhile, just two seats to the left of Pappas is Italian pro and WSOPE bracelet winner Dario Alioto, currently struggling with a paltry 10,000 in chips.

Cohen Claude Some Chips Back

Stud 8:

Claude Cohen, one of the few Frenchmen to win a bracelet (in the 1997 $1,500 Omaha Limit event), has been a fairly small stack all day, but has just virtually doubled up to 18,000 through Farzad Rouhani.

Rouhani, who has been up and down all day, called Cohen on every street with {4-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {7-Spades} up. Cohen was showing {K-Hearts} {A-Spades} {8-Clubs} {K-Spades} and on seventh street, when he threw his last 1,800 in, Rouhani finally folded, showing a pair of Queens.

Benson Unearthed

It required all my experience in poker journalism, but I have finally managed to locate one Mr Gary Benson. Seated with 22,000 in chips, and looking very focused indeed, Benson currently shares a table with Full Tilt's Bill Gazes.
