Bellande Can't Believe It

Jean-Robert Bellande's table had shrunk down to just seven players so they temporarily stopped play to wait and ask a tournament staff director to issue new players to the table. After the brief pause, Bellande was quite happy to look down and see pocket kings. He was able to get a player in the big blind to get all his money in preflop, who showed A-K. The board came {4-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {A-Spades} and Bellande became quite upset over the suck-out.

"I don't f#cking believe this! Every f#cking time on the river! Why does it always happen to me?" he yelled. Fortunately for Bellande, no tournament staff was around to hear the language. Bellande's been doing quite while today and even after losing the 4,000 pot he still has 9,000 chips in front of him.

Medic Gets Set Up

Nenad Medic, who won Event #1 last week, called a 600 raise preflop while sitting on the button. The small blind called as well, as did the big blind and an early position player. On a flop of {J-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {6-Spades} the original raiser checked, as did Medic. When the big blind fired 1,800 into the pot, everyone folded to Medic, who made it another 2,500 to go. The big blind moved all in for a total of 7,000 and Medic called. Medic showed {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades} for top pair while his opponent showed pocket sixes for a set. Medic failed to improve, but still has 5,000 in chips after the hand.

Pockets Hold for D'Angelo

Ryan D'Angelo moved all-in from early position and was called by a player in late position. D'Angelo, who only had 1,625 left turned over pocket tens and his opponent showed {K-Hearts} {J-Hearts}. The board was of no help to his opponent and after the hand D'Angelo is up to 3,600.

Player Update

By 11:30am today there were just over 1,100 entrants in today's field. With late registration occurring, we ended up with a total of 1,397 and with the completion of the first break, we're down to under 1,100.

The top 99 players of this event will make the money, with 99th place guaranteed $5,783, while first place will take home a very nice purse of $666,777.

Maria "Maridu" Mayrinck Eliminated

Prior to the break, Maria '"Maridu" Mayrinck was sitting on a comfortable stack just over 4,000. Within just ten minutes since returning from break, Maridu was facing a 600 raise preflop while on the button. A late position player had called the 600 and Maridu moved all-in for 3,875. The original raiser made the call while the late position player folded. Maridu showed A-K and was up against her opponents pocket aces. Maridu failed to improve and was eliminated from today's event.

Don't Show Till You Know!

Rather a weird hand just before the break. A player in early position raised to 400 and Clonie Gowen called from the cutoff. The flop came {5-Hearts} {K-Hearts} {3-Spades}, the original raiser checked, Gowen bet 600, her opponent check-raised to 1,500, and Gowen reraised to 3,500. The other player then turned over his cards, showing two Aces, and said, "I'm pretty much all-in anyway" and announced that he called.

Thing is, you can't expose your cards like that, and Gowen would've been within her rights to ask that the other player be penalized. But she didn't press the issue, and after the {Q-Hearts} hit on the turn, the poker gods smiled down and presented Gowen with the {K-Spades} on the river, winning her the pot. She now has 13,000.

Photos With Jesus

Currently, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson is sitting in the one seat at his table, which happens to rest right next to the rail inside the Amazon room. His seat actually faces the rail, giving railbirds plenty of opportunities to approach and snatch a picture. Ferguson has been awfully accommodating given the situation; posing and smiling for anxious fans.
