Amnon Filippi Eliminated

Amnon Filippi limped from middle position, Russ "Sooners" Floyd called behind him, and the big blind called as well. The flop came {Q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. The big blind checked, Filippi bet 350, Floyd called, and the BB folded.

The turn was the {6-Clubs}. Filippi bet 1,000, Floyd raised pot, and Filippi called with the last of his chips.

Filippi {Q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Floyd {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{A-Spades}{7-Clubs}

The river was the {10-Spades}, and Floyd's top set took the pot. Filippi is out.

The Carnage (Thus Far)

Sounds like 759 is the number of total entrants. Of those, 450 remain as we begin level 3. That's right -- about 40% of the field has already hit the rail.

With blinds of 75/150 in this level, opening preflop raises can range from 300 to 525.

The Action Game

The board is showing 759 total entrants in today's event. We'll probably have an official announcement of the total shortly.

Bustouts have been coming fast and furious here in the first few levels. We also should soon have an idea of how many have already departed. We've started gathering some chip counts, so click on that tab for the latest.

Two more minutes left in the break.

A Couple of Hands that Happened Just Before the Break

In a hand before the break Marc Goodwin was eliminated after turning a set holding x x {Q-?} {Q-?}. He lost to an opponent who flopped a set holding x x {A-?} {A-?}.

Rolf Slotboom managed to more than triple up to 8,300 holding {10-?} {J-?} {5-?} {6-?}. Kathy Liebert and an unknown player were his opponents and both called Slotboom's all-in turn bet but mucked on the river with the board reading {A-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {9-Spades}.

Let's Get Real

Marcel Luske just took a medium-sized pot in a three-way hand versus Leif Force and Johnny Chan. Force has 14,600, Luske 4,600, and Chan is down to 10,600.

In describing the hand to me, the reporter referred to Force as "the Caveman." I had noticed Gavin Smith at a different table, so we had to clarify who was the real "Caveman."

Incidentally, also at Gavin Smith's table is the real "Chainsaw," Allen Kessler.

PLOddity

A player in middle position bet pot, and Steve Paul-Ambrose repotted it from the big blind. The flop came J-8-6, and Paul-Ambrose quickly made a pot-sized bet. The MP player reraised pot, and Paul-Ambrose called, leaving himself only a single 25-chip behind.

Paul-Ambrose turned over A-A-K-Q. His opponent showed 2-3-5-6, commenting as he did that he'd been trying to steal the pot.

There's a reason why they call it Omadraw. A five on the turn and another five on the river, and Paul-Ambrose was crippled. He was eliminated on the next hand.

Top Omaha Player Out

Well-respected Omaha player Robert Williamson III has been eliminated. Short-stacked with only 500 chips, he pushed on a {J-Spades} {5-Hearts} {J-Hearts} flop. An unknown player called him holding {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {K-Spades} {3-Spades}.

Williamson was in with {A-?} {Q-?} {J-?} {3-?}, but when the turn came {7-Hearts} he was in big trouble and it was all over for the popular Texan when the river came {8-Diamonds} .
