Friedman Doubles Up

With just under 1,700 in chips, Perry Friedman shoved all in from the big blind with pocket eights and was called by another player, who turned over {Q-Spades}{4-Spades}. The board helped his opponent none, letting Perry double up to just over 3,000.

Black Almost Doubles Up

With 1,400 chips in the pot preflop, Andy Black checked a {4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop and then called the all-in bet of his opponent for 3,400 chips. Black was ahead with {3-Spades}{4-Spades} against his opponent's {3-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}. Unfortunately for Black, the turn and river came {3-Clubs} and {A-Diamonds} to make a 5-high straight for both players.

Black remains alive with 5,800 chips.

Chiu Loses Blind War

In a battle of the blinds on a flop of {10-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{5-Clubs} the player in the small blind pushed his last 1,750 chips into the pot. David Chiu made the call in the big blind and tabled {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} to hold the lead against his opponent's {10-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. Needing to dodge a club and a four, Chiu watched and the {K-Spades} hit the turn before the {7-Clubs} fell on the river to double up his opponent as Chiu slipped to around 3,900.

A Player Used to Different Kinds of Checks

Nine-time National Hockey League All-Star Jeremy Roenick has been spotted in today's field. Roenick, who has spent the better part of 18 seasons with several different teams and recently signed a one-year deal with the San Jose Sharks, is among the NHL's all-time leaders in goals scored.

He has been using position aggressively at his table and has amassed a stack of approximately 8,000 chips.

Tran Making Moves

Kenny Tran made it 600 to go preflop from middle position and was called by a single player. The flop came {6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Tran led out for another 600. Again his opponent called and the turn brought the {Q-Diamonds}. Tran bumped the bet to 1,600 and his opponent quickly raised to 4,000. Tran reraised to 10,000, which ultimately made his opponent fold. After the fold, Tran turned over {8-Spades}{4-Spades} and his opponent jumped out of his seat, then told Tran, "Do it again."

Mehki Phifer Eliminated

Not long after his recently departed tablemate Phil Hellmuth, actor Mehki Phifer said goodbye to his chance at poker glory, at least in this event. The short-stacked Phifer got it all in holding K-Q against the A-J of his opponent. The board helped neither player and Phifer made his exit.

David Singer Increases his Stack

David Singer raised in late position to 750 and the big blind called. On a flop of {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Clubs} the big blind bet 400 and Singer called. The big blind bet 900 on a turn card of the {6-Hearts} and Singer again called the bet. The river was the {J-Diamonds} and the big blind checked. Singer bet 2,100 and the big blind folded his hand. After the hand Singer looked at his opponent and said, "I knew you didn't have it."

Singer now sits with 7,400 in chips.
