Eli Elezra limped from early position and Toto Leonidas pushed all of his 1,700-chip stack from middle position. The action folded back to Elezra who made the call.
Elezra:
Leonidas:
The board ran out and Leonidas doubled up to leave Elezra crippled.
A few hands later Elezra had the last of his chips in on a flop of . Elezra held but trailed the of Roland Rint. The turn brought the and the river to eliminate Elezra from today's event.
Erick Lindgren Eliminated
It was a short day for Erick Lindgren. Lindgren got the last of his chips in the middle on a flop against fellow Full Tilt pro David Singer. It was unclear what Lingren held, but what is certain is that by showdown it failed to beat the of Singer.
Tilly Out
It was a battle of the blinds between Jennifer Tilly and Denny Lee. On a flop of , Tilly pushed all in for 1,275 and her opponent made the call. Tilly showed for the flopped straight and Lee showed for a pair of jacks and a straight-flush draw. The helped neither player, but a on the river completed Lee's flush and sent Tilly over to watch her boyfriend Phil Laak play in today's Pot-Limit Hold'em final table.
Phil Hellmuth, in typical Hellmuth fashion, decided to wait until two and a half hours into today's event to arrive. He showed up wearing a racing jacket, introduced himself to everyone at his table, and took his seat directly to the left of Mekhi Phifer. Due to the late registration versus late arrival rule, Phil's chip stack has been dwindled down to 1,900.
John Juanda Eliminated
John Juanda moved all in from late position but found himself two callers, one of whom was also all in. Juanda held but was up against as well as from the player on the button.
The board ran out and although Juanda made trips on the river it wasn't enough to overcome the full house of his opponent and he is eliminated from the tournament.
Though his day began on the right track, Anthony Licastro has just been sent to the rail.
Sitting in the big blind, Licastro saw a player min-raise to 400 from middle position, and was the only caller.
The flop came down , and Licastro fired out into the raiser with a 400-chip bet of his own. His opponent made the call.
Both players checked the turn card, , and the fell on the river. Licastro bet out 800, which was flat-called by his opponent, who showed down 8-8 for a set. Licastro mucked his holdings, and was knocked down to just 800 in chips.
Steve Zolotow raised to 400 in middle position and the small blind immediately pushed all in for 1,925. Zolotow thought for a couple of minutes before making the call, showing . His opponent tabled . The board helped neither player and Zolotow is now down to around 2,600.
Part of the record field
The final tally on players in today's field is 1,881. That makes the combined field from Day 1a and Day 1b a total of 3,929, shattering the record for a preliminary event of 3,151 set last year in Event #49. Overall, this is the fourth-largest field ever for a WSOP event, behind the Main Event in 2006, 2007 and 2005 (in that order).
Melissa Hayden has just been eliminated after getting her money in good, holding pocket aces against an opponent's K-J, but two more kings on the flop were enough to send Hayden home.
