Phil Ivey Eliminated

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey
On a flop of {9-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} Phil Ivey and John Hennigan got all the money in the middle. Ivey turned up {K-Diamonds} {9-Spades} for top pair, but Hennigan had him crushed with {9-Hearts} {7-Hearts} for two pair. The turn was the {A-Hearts}, the river was the {3-Diamonds} and Hennigan dragged the pot, leaving Ivey with only 2,000 in chips.

A few hands later, they were all in again on a flop of {8-?} {7-?} {3-?}. Ivey held {J-?} {10-?} and again was in bad shape against Hennigan's {Q-?} {Q-?}. The turn was a {7-?}, the river was a {Q-?} and Ivey was eliminated in the first round, while Hennigan will advance.

After bursting out of the gate to a 3-1 chip lead over German opponent Sebastian Ruthenberg, Tony G has just landed the final blow, sending his young opponent to the rail.

On a board showing {5-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {3-Diamonds}, Tony and Sebastian got it all in with Sebastian's tournament life on the line. Sebastian revealed {Q-Clubs} {7-Clubs} at the showdown; Tony tabled {A-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}.

The board ultimately ran out {A-Hearts}, {5-Diamonds} giving Tony two pair, aces and fives, sending him on to the round of 128.

The Tardy Boys

Despite a five-minute grace period in which the dealers would hold up play if one of the players in each match had yet to arrive, several poker heavyweights have yet to arrive at the Rio and are currently being blinded off. Freddy Deeb and David "The Dragon" Pham are no-shows so far, as is Kenny Tran, who has been blinded down to 16,500 from his original 20,000 starting stack.
