Table Three Erupts

Shane Schleger
Shane Schleger
Just as it appeared as though the rest of the field was calmly drifting away, their eyelids becoming heavier as they slowly begin to grind their way into day two, the players are abruptly awoken from their slumber by an eruption of drama on Table Three that would put a Lost cliffhanger to shame.

The main perpetrators of the kerfuffle were Shane 'Shaniac' Schleger, Peter Tran, and, nearer the tail end of the fracas, Davood Mehrmand.

As I joined the debate, Shane Schleger was most agitated, his arms gesticulating like a madman as he complained about Tran showing a hand to Mehrmand whilst Mehrmand was still in the hand and vice versa a few hands prior.

All three players were arguing adamantly, Mehrmand protesting his innocence adamantly and saying, "This man needs to see a doctor, he has a problem." Tran, meanwhile, rose from his seat exclaiming, "Don't you use the F word with me!"

Eventually, the tournament director was called over, and much to the dismay of Mehrmand who argued, "I didn't show my hand, he lies", Schleger was given a warning for disruptive behavior whilst Tran and his supposed accomplice were warned for showing cards.

Play has continued, but all three players are still frothing at the mouth like rabid wolverines, so we'll be keeping a close on the action to see if any further arguments ensue. Tensions are currently simmering, but if they begin to boil over again, we'll let you know.

Action Slowing Down

The rate of big hands played seems, rather predictably, to be dwindling in proportion to the number of players left as we start to approach the bubble, nobody really wanting to gamble unless they have to at this stage.

Elezra Eli-Minated

Eli Elezra, who had clawed back a few chips to bring his short stack up to around 17,000, has been eliminated. He made a good move, moving all in to a 4,600 bet from Sean Burstein on the {9-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {2-Spades} flop. Elezra was holding {A-Diamonds} {J-Spades} to Burstein's {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} and the turn was a harmless {4-Clubs}, but Burstein hit the cruel {Q-Spades} river to end Elezra's tournament life.

Jack on the River

The Channster
The Channster
Neil Channing has just taken out a short-stack on the table in front of me, and in dramatic circumstances too.

With Channing open limping from early position with {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}, a couple of other players limped in late only for the big blind to make it 2,400 more to play.

Channing, having limped to raise, decided to bump it up to 7,200. Folded round to the big blind, who, without too much deliberation, decided to push all in for a total of 10,000.

At this point, Channing's opponent revealed {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades} face up, not quite realizing that Channing was yet to call. However, after assessing the pot odds and his current relationship with the poker gods, Channing gave him a spin for the extra 2,800.

The flop was a harmless one...

{A-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}

as was the turn...

{10-Diamonds}

but on the river a special guest joined the party...

{J-Spades}

"I knew he had something," Channing later added. "I hoped he had A-K".

Channing now on 31,000.

Mahmood Chip Leader

Ayaz Mahmood is our current chip leader after winning two enormous hands in quick succession.

He check-raised and then called his opponent all in on the {Q-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {5-Clubs} flop. The opponent held {K-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}, but he was drawing thin against Mahmood's {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs}. Duly the {7-Clubs} turn and {3-Diamonds} river did nothing for him, and Mahmood was up to 55,000.

Then, just a few hands later, Mahmood and his newly acquired pile of chips tangled with another big stack. The board read {2-Spades} {3-Spades} {10-Clubs} {4-Spades} {A-Clubs} and Mahmood flipped over {6-Spades} {8-Spades} for the flush. His opponent said he had two pair, but mucked. Mahmood now on an enormous 100,000, the average stack around 25,000.
