Take It to the Limit

We are nearing the end of the limit-half of Level 7, though with blinds of 500/1,000 (and stakes of 1,000/2,000), we are starting to see players having to go all in fairly frequently, as they haven't enough chips to bet all the way down.

Phil Laak recently survived after putting his last chips in on the turn on a board of {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{K-Clubs}. His opponent folded, and Laak had 14,000 with which to keep playing.

Elsewhere, John Juanda got the last of his chips in preflop in a hand against Josh Arieh. The board came {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{K-Spades}, and Juanda's J-8 bested Arieh's A-10. Juanda has 6,700.

We Will Have a New Champion

Steve Billirakis, the defending champion, is eliminated, and here's how it happened. Roland de Wolfe raised, Billirakis reraised, and de Wolfe three-bet. Billirakis called again.

The flop was {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Both checked. The turn was the {K-Hearts}. Billirakis bet and de Wolfe put him all in. Billirakis called with A-K and de Wolfe had {K-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. The river was the {9-Diamonds} and the straight finished Billirakis off. After the hand, de Wolfe gave Billirakis $1,200 to pay off a series of prop bets based on the cards. De Wolfe is up to 42,000.

The Right Queen

Robert Williamson III

Another interesting hand from the previous no-limit round:

Marcel Luske raised to 5,000 from late position, and Robert Williamson III called from the small blind. On a flop of {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, Williamson checked, Luske bet 1,000, and Williamson called. The {5-Clubs} came on the turn, and both players checked.

A fourth club -- the {9-Clubs} -- came on the river. Williamson bet 2,000, and Luske folded, showing Q-Q.

"Me, too, but I have the right one," said Williamson, who then turned over the other two queens, including the {Q-Clubs}.

Williamson is now up to 24,000. "My high point of the Series," he told a reporter.

Quads for David Williams

David Williams
David Williams
In one of the last no-limit hands in Level 6, a middle-position player limped, and David Williams checked his option from the big blind. The flop came {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and both players checked. The turn was the {9-Clubs}. Williams checked, the MP player bet 1,200, Williams reraised to 2,500, and the MP player called.

The river was the {J-Hearts}. Williams bet 4,500 and the MP player called. Williams turned over {9-Spades}{8-Clubs} for quads, and his opponent mucked.

After the hand, Williams was up to 52,000.
