Erick Lindgren Eliminated in 3rd Place ($781,440)

Erick Lindgren - 3rd Place
Erick Lindgren - 3rd Place
Hand #303

Stud:

Erick Lindgren (X-X) {8-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {K-Spades} {4-Spades} (X)

Scotty Nguyen (X-X) {9-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {2-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} (X)

Michael DeMichele had the bring-in with the {5-Spades}, Lindgren completed, Nguyen raised, DeMichele folded and Lindgren called. Nguyen bet out on fourth and Lindgren called. Lindgren made the high board on fifth and led out, Nguyen raised, and Lindgren called all in for 575,000.

Lindgren turned over {A-Spades} {8-Hearts} for a pair of eights, while Nguyen showed a pair of nines. The crowd was on their feet as the seventh street cards came down. Nguyen caught the {K-Hearts}, but Lindgren got the {2-Spades} and could not improve. He was eliminated in 3rd place to an ovation from the audience and will take home $781,440 for his finish.

Please Say You're Joking

If you've been paying attention you've noticed that we just passed the 300-hand mark. We pointed that out to Tournament Director Brooks Turk and he announced to the crowd, "We just played our 300th hand...so we're halfway done". It took the folks in the audience a few seconds before they laughed at the joke, perhaps in part because they're tired, perhaps in part because they think he might be right.

Hand #301 - Scotty Nguyen

Stud:

Erick Lindgren brought it in with the {3-Clubs}, Scotty Nguyen completed with the {K-Hearts}, Michael DeMichele put in a raise with the {Q-Hearts} up, Lindgren folded, Nguyen reraised and DeMichele called. Fourth street brought the {A-Diamonds} for Nguyen and the {3-Hearts} for DeMichele. Nguyen bet and DeMichele gave it up.

Getting Sleepy, Perhaps?

We've been playing for just short of 13 hours now and it would appear that the long hours have taken their toll on the crowd. It's much, much quieter now than it was before the break. It's been a long day, one that threatens be a lot longer, and maybe the constant cry of "Cocktails!" that filled the arena have, oddly, had a sobering effect on the crowd.
