Burgoine Sends Rajkumar Into the Tank

In a big hand with Vivek Rajkumar, James Burgoine check the flop of {9-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades}. Rajkumar bet out 3,500 and Burgoine raised to 9,500. Vivek went into the tank... for over ten minutes. After a while, Vivek said "I have no idea what you have, can I see it?"

Burgoine didn't say a word and didn't move. He just sat there patiently and waited. Finally, another player asked for the clock. The floor person timed down the clock and eventually Vivek folded. The player that asked for the clock said that he apologizes for calling the clock and that he doesn't usually do it, but it was a long time. Vivek didn't realize he tanked for over ten minutes. "I thought it was like three," he said.

Lawson Eliminated

Ted Lawson reraised to 2,400 after the button made it 800. Lawson was in the big blind and the button made the call.

The flop came {A-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {3-Clubs} and Lawson bet out 2,175. The button moved all in and had Lawson covered. Lawson made the call and both players showed {A-?} {5-?}. Lawson's opponent was freerolling as he held the {A-Clubs} {5-Clubs}. The turn brought the {9-Clubs} to end Lawson's tournament. The river was a meaningless {K-Spades}.

Tilly Takes a Hit

Jennifer Tilly
Jennifer Tilly
Jennifer Tilly just lost a big chunk of her chip stack in a hand that left her with ~12,000.

The under-the-gun player made it 1,000 to go before the flop and Tilly made the call from the big blind.

The flop came {5-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {6-Spades} and Tilly led out with a 1,500 bet. Her opponent then kicked it up to 4,000 and Tilly made the call.

The {6-Diamonds} fell on the turn and Tilly check-called a 5,000 bet from her opponent to see the {3-Diamonds} land on 5th street. Tilly checked once more and her opponent shoved all in -- a bet totaling 6,800. Tilly made the call and mucked when her opponent tabled {K-Hearts} {6-Hearts} for trips.

"Wow - I never put you on that. Nice hand," said Tilly after the hand.

River Trips for Buss

The first player limped, the second player limped, Jerry Buss limped on the button, then Sebastian Ruthenberg raised to 1,800 from the small blind. The first player called, the second player called and was all in, and then Buss called as well.

The flop came {A-Hearts} {J-Spades} {3-Clubs} and Ruthenberg bet out 1,100. The next player called as did Buss on the button.

The turn was the {9-Hearts} and Ruthenberg led for 4,000. The next player folded and Buss called all in for 2,100.

Buss: {4-Hearts} {3-Hearts}
Ruthenberg: {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs}
All-in player: {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}

The river was the {3-Diamonds} to give Buss trips and the best hand. This put Buss up to 13,800 and eliminated the one player while dropping Ruthenberg down to 14,300.

The Dragon Slayed

David "The Dragon" Pham
David "The Dragon" Pham
David 'The Dragon' Pham was recently eliminated from the tournament under some pretty unusual circumstances.

According to Antonio Esfandiari, who was seated to Pham's right at the time, David Pham folded his big blind before he even posted it, apparently under the assumption that he was under the gun. The table quickly realized Pham's error and his cards were returned and his blind posted.

Action then folded around to Alex Miller on the button, who opened the pot for a raise. Not one to be bullied, Pham made the call holding a meager 6-8 and saw a flop of {6-?} {8-?} {A-?}. Unfortunately for Pham, Miller held pocket aces! All of the money got in on the flop and the hand resulted in Pham's ultimate demise.
