Quads for Mercier

Jason Mercier has been looking healthy here today. From under the gun, Mercier raised to 4,200. The cutoff, Jesper Petersen, reraised to 15,000. After the blinds folded, Mercier moved all in for 40,000 total and Petersen called.

Mercier: {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}
Petersen: {A-Hearts} {9-Spades}

The flop was a whopper for the EPT San Remo winner Mercier, {K-Spades} {K-Clubs} {7-Hearts}, ending Petersen's chance right there.

The turn and river came the {5-Clubs} then the {9-Hearts} and Mercier is up to around 89,000.

A Liu-Liu of a Sequence

J.J. Liu
J.J. Liu
Elliot Smith raised on the button, and J.J. Liu reraised all in from the big blind. Smith called. Liu showed {A-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, while Smith had {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}.
Not such a great spot for Liu. However, the board ran out {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{A-Hearts}, giving Liu a wheel. "Sorry," said Liu to Smith, shaking her head.

Just after, Liu raised from the button and Joe Le moved in against her from the big blind with Q-J. Unfortunately for Le, this time Liu had pocket rockets. Her hand held up and she's catapulted up to 121,000.

Batista Out

From late position, Chad Batista raised. Richard Ashby moved all in from the button and Batista called.

Batista held pocket eights and Ashby held {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts}.

The flop contained the other big, red king and the board ran out {K-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {3-Clubs}. Batista was eliminated on the hand and Ashby moved up to 65,000.

The Goldberg Variations

Michael Goldberg just took two hits to his stack in rapid succession.

On the first, the board showed {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, Steven Weusten bet his last 21,000 and Goldberg called. Weusten showed {A-Spades}{5-Diamonds} for trips, while Goldberg held {Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. The river was the {6-Diamonds}, and Weusten was up to 122,000.

Shortly afterwards, Goldberg found himself competing for a big pot versus Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier. On a board showing {A-Spades}{7-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{A-Clubs}, Goldberg checked, Grospellier bet 21,000, Goldberg check-raised to 45,000, and Grospellier called.

Goldberg showed {10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for the rivered flush, but Grospellier had {Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} -- similar to the hand with which Goldberg had just lost, and good enough for a better flush here. Grospellier is way up to 260,000, while Goldberg has fallen to 55,000.

Binger Gets Frisky

After Martin Wiklund raised from the button, Nick Binger moved all his chips in to put the pressure on Wiklund. Wiklund wasn't falling for it and quickly called.

Wiklund: {A-Diamonds} {J-Hearts}
Binger: {9-Spades} {3-Spades}

Binger said, "Two live cards." as he rolled his hand over.

The flop had the door card of an ace, but also brought a scare to Wiklund with two spades. {A-Clubs} {K-Spades} {7-Spades}.

The turn was a really crazy card, the {A-Spades}. It gave Wiklund trip aces and Binger the flush. Wiklund would need to pair the board or his jack to win the hand.

The river came the {7-Hearts} and just like that Wiklund was able to steal the hand back on the river and double up.

Smurfiting on the River Smurfit

Short-stacked and seeing a flop of {6-Clubs}{7-Spades}{9-Clubs}, Alan Smurfit just shoved his last 17,500 with {5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. Jonathan Aguiar made the call with {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}.

The turn was the {K-Spades} and Smurfit was in need of help. However, the river brought the {8-Spades}, giving Smurfit the straight and continued life in the tourney. He's doubled to just under 40,000.

Pearce-d

The board read {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {9-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} when Stephen Pearce shoved all in for 19,000. The big blind, Jan Forsman, wasted little time in calling and tabled {J-Spades} {9-Hearts}.

Pearce mentioned that it was bad luck that he hit the river with the {7-Spades} {3-Hearts} and was eliminated just out of the money.

Wait, Wat?

Roberto Romanello raised to 4,100 from the cutoff, and Chris McCormack called from the big blind. The flop came {8-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. McCormack checked, Romanello bet 4,200, McCormack raised to 21,000, and Romanello reraised all in. McCormack snap-called, showing {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for the nut flush draw. Romanello turned over {Q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} for two pair.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds} and Romanello was still ahead. The river brought the {10-Spades}, and Romanello initially clapped his hands, seeing the flush had not arrived. Then he saw that ten had made McCormack a straight. "Aw, shit," said Romanello.

McCormack is up to 118,000, while Romanello has slipped to 38,000.

Hamnett Bests Lester

Ben Hamnett raised to 3,300 from the cutoff, and Jason Lester called from the small blind. The flop came {6-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. Lester checked, Hamnett bet 6,000, then Lester check-raised to 20,000. Hamnett called.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds}. Lester pushed his remaining 51,000, and Hamnett made the call. Lester showed {A-Hearts}{J-Spades} for top pair, but Hamnett had flopped a set with his {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. The river was the {3-Hearts}, and Lester is out.

Hamnett is now up to 116,000.
