Violette Eliminated

No payday for Cyndy Violette today. She was all in after fourth street against Marvin Ryan and Barry Hartheimer. Ryan took the low with a 7-6-5-3-2; Ryan took the high with a pair of jacks. Violette had a good drawing board after fifth street, showing 6-6-8 with an ace and a deuce in the hole, but she bricked out and was bounced from the tournament.

Hunt Running Great

Thomas Hunt III has been running like a god since we started play 90 minutes ago. In a recent hand against Tony G, Hunt showed x-x / {6-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts} on fifth street to Tony G's x-x / {A-Spades} {3-Spades} {J-Spades}. There had been a flurry of betting on fourth street, with each player putting in three bets and folding two other players that had seen fourth street. This time around, they both checked.

On sixth street, Tony G caught the {9-Diamonds} while Hunt caught the {9-Clubs}. With the better board, Hunt bet. Tony G called.

Both players checked the river. As Tony G peeked at his card, he said "Ahh, you win." Hunt opened {3-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {8-Hearts} in the hole, for a heart flush and an 8-7 low. Tony G flashed {5-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {3-Clubs} before mucking.

Hunt now has 99,000 chips and is the far and away chip leader.

Not Poker for Advanced Players

David Sklansky and Mickey Seagle were involved in a pot that went to the river. After the final round of betting, Sklansky got the low half of the pot and Seagle got the high half of the pot. As the dealer split the chips in the pot, there was one extra purple (T500) chip and one extra gray (T100) chip. The dealer threw those extra chips to Seagle and said "Give him 300," pointing at Sklansky.

This threw the entire table into confusion. "You can't do that," said Sklansky. "This is poker for laymen. You have to chop the pot in the middle." It was eventually sorted out, and Sklansky got the proper amount of chips.

Kerbel and Hunt Go To War

A tough day just got tougher for Jay Kerbel. Just as we got back to his table, we saw him involved in a four-way pot with Brandon Leeds, Thomas Hunt III (again) and Sandra Taylor. Taylor and Leeds were both all in and about 25,000 chips were in the pot after fifth street. The boards read:

Leeds: x-x / {5-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {3-Clubs}
Kerbel: x-x / {2-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {J-Clubs}
Hunt: x-x / {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {9-Clubs}
Taylor: x-x / {3-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {5-Hearts}

Sixth street came {7-Hearts} to Leeds, {K-Diamonds} to Kerbel, {A-Clubs} to Hunt and {A-Spades} to Taylor. Kerbel and Hunt checked the side pot. On the river, Kerbel checked to Hunt, then raised after Hunt bet. Hunt made the call.

For the side pot, Kerbel opened {J-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} for a full house deuces full of jacks, and no low. Hunt opened {9-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {Q-Spades} for a bigger full house, nines full of queens, and no low. He scooped the side pot.

For the main pot, Leeds mucked his hand. Taylor opened {4-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} to make the nut low, 5-4-3-2-A to take the low half of the main pot. Hunt's full house took the high half of the main pot.

Leeds was eliminated on the hand. Kerbel is down to 13,500 chips after starting the day near the top of the leaderboard. Hunt has surged to about 66,000.
