Rasmussen Finds a Queen

Sitting in late position, George Abdallah opened with a raise to 7,000. Right behind him, Thayer Rasmussen reraised to 31,000. William McMahon called from the small blind with his last 3,600 chips, and Abdallah made the call as well.

The flop came {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {6-Hearts}. Abdallah moved all in for 64,900, and Rasmussen, who was covered, made the call all in for 49,800 total. At this point, both McMahon and Rasmussen were at risk for their tournament lives.

McMahon: {5-Hearts} {7-Spades} {9-Spades} {A-Clubs}
Abdallah: {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {7-Clubs} {5-Spades}
Rasmussen: {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {2-Spades}

Abdallah had his two men on the ropes, looking for the double elimination. Salvation found Rasmussen on the turn, though. The {Q-Spades} peeled off, making him queens full, and putting him back in control of the hand. The river was a raggy {9-Clubs}. McMahon was knocked out, but Rasmussen found his card and more than doubled up, now over 180,000.

Cousineau Down

Tony Cousineau, crippled just a few minutes ago, has hit the rail. He bet 7,000 preflop and was called by David Williams. The rest went in on the {Q-Spades} {2-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} flop. Cousineau showed {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} for an overpair and a flush draw. Williams tabled {Q-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {9-Hearts} for trip queens with a smaller flush draw. The turn {10-Diamonds} gave Williams a full house, which was the best hand when the blank {6-Clubs} hit the turn.

Robert Williamson Eliminated

Jeff Lisandro raised preflop to 11,000 and got four callers, including Eddy Scharf and Robert Williamson III. The flop came down {9-Hearts} {4-Spades} {8-Diamonds} and action checked to Scharf in the cutoff, who bet pot. Williamson was the only player who called, calling all in for 20,000. He tabled {8-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} for two pair, eights and fours and a straight draw. Scharf showed {J-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} for an overpair and a bigger straight draw. The turn and river came {2-Hearts} {5-Hearts}, giving Scharf a backdoor flush (bigger than Williamson's) to take down Williamson.

Scharf now has about 212,000 in chips.

Tony Cousineau in Trouble

Tony Cousineau was all in with his short stack -- 4,900 chips -- before the flop, heads up against Dario Alioto.

Cousineau: {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {10-Spades} {8-Diamonds}
Alioto: {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {4-Clubs} {3-Clubs}

Cousineau was well behind and needed some help to stay alive. The board ran {J-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {9-Spades} {Q-Spades} {6-Spades}. Cousineau turned a straight then rivered a flush, taking down the much-needed pot and doubling himself up to 10,800 at Alioto's expense.

Doubling Dags

John D'Agostino has just doubled up against Elie Marciano, heads up and all in on the flop.

D'Agostino: {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}
Marciano: {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}

At the end, the board read {K-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {5-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {3-Hearts}. D'Agostino was behind when the money went in on the flop, but he rallied on the river, making his wheel and doubling up to 144,000.

Scharf Scarfs Down a Pot

Eddy Scharf limped in under the gun, and action passed around to Jonathan Stal in the cutoff. He raised to 7,000, Scharf reraised the pot, and Stal called all in for his remaining 22,000.

Scharf: {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {6-Hearts}
Stal: {A-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {6-Clubs}

With the betting action complete, the dealer ran the board {10-Spades} {5-Clubs} {5-Spades} {4-Clubs} {9-Diamonds}. It proved no help for the at-risk player, and Scharf took down the pot with his aces up, eliminating Stal.

David and Clonie

Clonie Gowen
Clonie Gowen
While Leif Force was busy losing his chips on the first hand, at the adjacent table, Clonie Gowen was looking for a big double-up.

David Williams opened the action with an in-the-dark raise to 6,000 from the button. Kido Pham and Clonie called from the blinds, and the three players went to the flop.

It came out {Q-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {J-Diamonds}. Clonie bet out 18,000, and David Williams raised her all in. She called, tabling {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {3-Clubs}. Williams showed down {Q-Spades} {10-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {8-Spades}.

The turn and river blanked off for Williams, and he shipped a double-up over to Gowen, who now sits with 108,000. Williams has dropped down to 85,000.

Leif Forced Out By Giang

Leif Force was riding the big stack for most of Day 1, but he was crippled late in the day, and now he's out.

On the very first hand of action, Force moved all in for his last 4,000 chips with {A-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {6-Hearts}. Chau Giang was on the button, and he looked Force up holding {J-Spades} {J-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {3-Spades}.

The board ran out {9-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {4-Hearts}. It was useless for Force, and he heads to the exit, all smiles nonetheless.
