Jean-Robert Bellande was all in preflop with . A late position player called with . By the turn, Bellande had both the nut flush and nut low draws with a board of , but he missed both draws when the river hit the . As a result, Bellande will have to come back tomorrow to play Survivor: Rio.
We spotted Alex Kravchenko walking through the tables at the commencement of this event, but he hasn't been spotted since. We expected the defending champion to make an appearance today, however at this stage we can't confirm if he is playing multiple tournaments and will make a late arrival, or if he has chosen not to defend his 2007 title. We will keep you posted.
After chopping a pot with his opponent, Jean-Robert Bellande seemed confused when the dealer accidentally gave him the extra 25 denomination chip from the pot by mistake. The extra chip was meant to be given to his opponent, so Bellande threw the chip across the table and it landed in his opponent's lap!
A visably frustrated Bellande quipped "Argh! I just wanna throw these chips!" as he looked down at the 250 chips he has left.
A hand between Gabe Kaplan, Berry Johnston, and a player on the button was three-bet preflop. On a flop of , Johnston bet and both Kaplan and the button player called the bet. The turn was the . Johnston again bet and both opponents called. The river was the . Johnston again fired at the pot and both opponents folded.
"Minneapolis" Jim Meehan apparently doesn't appreciate the fact that a lot of today's players are not familiar with him or his past history in poker. He was overheard telling a player at his table the following:
"Don't you know who I am sonny boy? I'm like the new Joe Lewis"
'Miami' John Cernuto is one of the first casualties of the day. In his final hand he ran into an opponent's nut flush which was good to scoop the pot and send Cernuto to the rail.
On a board of , Shannon Elizabeth made a bet into a middle position player. The player called and Elizabeth tabled for a set of kings. Her opponent only showed half of his hand, which was the .
We missed the hand, but John "Tex" Barch, who finished third in the Main Event in 2005 and was also seated at Tropical #6, was just eliminated from today's event by Carol Kline.
Erik Seidel has just taken his seat in today's event, and finds himself on the same table as Jimmy 'gobboboy' Fricke.
In a battle of old school versus new school, these two poker characters seem worlds apart but interestingly they both share something rare in common - both have finished runner-up at the Aussie Millions.
Fricke was runner-up to Gus Hansen in 2007, and Seidel fell short in this year's event against Alex Kostritsyn.
Amarillo Slim and another player were involved in a pot together and at the end of the hand, Slim turned over his cards to show his hand. Typically in Omaha 8 or better players tend to turn their cards over a little more slowly than in other games. This isn't due to slowrolling, but due to the players trying to confirm what their hand was. After Slim turned over his hand, his opponent said "He slowrolled me! I was slowrolled by Amarillo Slim" Of course this was meant in jest, and everyone had a good laugh.
