Jeffrey Lisandro Eliminated

Jeffrey Lisandro Eliminated
Jeffrey Lisandro Eliminated
A middle-position player raised to 150 and Jeff Lisandro called from the small blind. The big blind put in a reraise to 450. The initial raiser passed but Lisandro made the call. The flop came down {Q-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {2-Clubs}. Lisandro checked and the big blind bet 750. Lisandro pushed all in. The big blind called. The players showed:

Lisandro: {Q-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Spades} {A-Hearts}

The turn came the {A-Diamonds}, giving his opponent top set, but Lisandro a flush draw. The Aussie needed a non-board-pairing diamond to take the hand, but the river {7-Spades} was not it, and Lisandro headed for the rail.

Selbst Makes Small Flush

We caught up with Vanessa Selbst on the turn, the board showing {2-Spades} {4-Clubs} {5-Spades} {6-Spades}. Her opponent bet 900, which she called. Both players checked the river when it came {3-Spades} to put a 6-high straight (and four spades) on board.

Selbst's opponent turned over a pair of sixes; his turned set was counterfeited by the board and he was playing the straight. Selbst turned over {7-Spades} {9-Spades} for a baby flush to scoop the pot.

She now has about 5,800 chips.

Brenes Takes One Out

Humberto Brenes
Humberto Brenes
On a flop of {Q-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {3-Diamonds}, Humberto Brenes checked to an opponent who bet 525. Brenes quickly moved all in for his last 1,850, and just as quickly his opponent called. Brenes was a huge favorite when he turned over {3-Hearts} {3-Spades} for a set. His opponent had only made top pair with {K-Hearts} {Q-Clubs}. He did not improve and was eliminated from the tournament.

Brenes now has well over 5,000 chips.

Andy Black Eliminated

Andy Black was on the wrong end of a coin flip for his tournament life. Black took his {A-?} {Q-?} up against the {J-?} {J-?} of Steve Strang and came up painfully short by the river. Black joins the dozens of players already sent packing.

Sorel Mizzi Eliminated

Sorel Mizzi raised to 150 from early position. The button called and the small blind passed. The big blind peeked at his cards and put in a reraise to 550. Mizzi moved all in for 2,500 total and the big blind made a quick call. The players showed:

Mizzi: {9-Clubs} {9-Diamonds}
Opponent: {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}

The board ran out {J-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {6-Clubs}, leaving Mizzi's nines second best, and he was eliminated just halfway through level 1.

Juanda Cracks Aces

On a flop of {Q-Clubs} {6-Spades} {6-Hearts}, John Juanda bet 750 after his opponent checked. His opponent made the call to see the {2-Spades} on the turn. He checked to Juanda again, who stared at the board for thirty seconds before checking behind. The river came {3-Hearts}. Now Juanda's opponent led out for 1,050. Juanda raised all in to 1,700 and was instantly called. He turned over {5-Spades} {4-Spades} for a runner-runner straight; his opponent had only two pair with {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}.

After the hand, Juanda's stack increased to about 5,500.

"Oops...I'm Over There"

Alex Jacob - Event #5
Alex Jacob - Event #5
It was about five minutes into the tournament when young gun Alex Jacob wandered into the tournament area and sat down in the Amazon Room. Jacob pulled up a chair at table blue #1 - seat#1 and play continued as normal. About ten minutes later, another gentleman strolled in, looked around curiously for his seat, then strolled up behind Jacob and said "I think you're in my seat." He showed Jacob his registration card and Jacob double checked his own. "Oops...I'm over there," said an embarrassed Jacob, pointing to adjacent table #6. A floor was called to resolve the issue. The floorman asked, "Did you play a hand?" Jacob responded, "I stole the blinds once." The floorman had Jacob pick up his chips and head for his assigned seat. The rightful owner of table #1 - seat #1 sat down, and play continued.

Esfandiari Eliminated

No magic tricks for the Magician today. Antonio Esfandiari ran his {A-?} {K-?} into someone else's aces and did not improve. His last 25 chips went in on the next hand, holding {Q-Hearts} {9-Clubs}. His opponent held {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades}. Neither player improved on a board of {10-Clubs} {10-Spades} {8-Spades} {4-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}. Esfandiari is out.
