Koskas Flahes "The Hachem"

Eric Koskas
Eric Koskas
Eric Koskas has just taken down a nice pot with some well-timed aggression. A late-position player raised preflop to 600 and Koskas made the call from the big blind.

The took a flop of {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and Koskas led for 1,175 and the LP player made the call. Both players checked the {2-Hearts} on the turn before the river fell the {K-Hearts}. Koskas fired out a bet of 4,800 and his opponent thought for a moment before laying it down. Koskas flashed {7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}, (a hand made famous by Joe Hachem when he won the 2005 Main Event with it) for just a mediocre two pair to take it down.

Young Takes a Pot

Jason Young - event #17
Jason Young - event #17
Jason Young has been steadily increasing his chip stack a little bit at a time. On this hand, Jason Young and his opponent went to the turn on a board that read {Q-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {6-Diamonds}. The turn came down the {10-Spades}.

Young raised his opponent's 1,000 bet to 3,000 and was called. The river came the {6-Clubs}, pairing the board. Young bet 3,100 when checked to and was called.

Young showed {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades} for a Broadway straight. His opponent flashed {Q-Hearts} {J-Spades} for two pair and didn't get the board to pair with the card he needed. This pot brought Young to 36,000.

Sometimes, They Call it the Sucker End of the Straight

On a flop of {9-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} the small blind checked, Micah Behling bet 700, the small blind moved all in for 5,500 and Behling made the call. Behling rolled over {J-Spades} {10-Spades} for the nut straight while his opponent showed {5-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} for the lower straight. The turn was the {4-Diamonds}, the river was the {6-Diamonds} and Behling eliminated the small blind, increasing his stack to 30,000.

Don't Mess with the Mob

You talkin' to me?
You talkin' to me?
An interesting character over on Orange 28 is Silvio "The Italian Stallion" Formica. In the old days, Formica claims that he was a member of the Cleveland and Chicago mob. He moved to Vegas back in 1945 and has been playing at the World Series since 1975. He has been a very nice guy to everyone at the table so far. Of his other players, he said, "wonderful people, but I'll bust them all."

No Luck with the Ladies

A tough day for Chris Verkerk just got a little bit tougher. He was dealt a premium starting hand, {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades} and managed to get one of his opponents, Danilo Carlucci, all in preflop. Unfortunately for Verkerk, Carlucci also had a premium hand -- {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}. The board ran out {8-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {4-Spades} {A-Hearts} to make aces full of fours for Carlucci. He now has 13,200 chips, while Verkerk falls to 7,300.

Dan Druff Doubles

Todd Witteles, during Event #12
Todd Witteles, during Event #12
Todd Witteles has doubled up after getting the last of his chips into the middle on the turn on a board of {2-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. His opponent showed {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades} but Witteles was in great shape with {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.

The river brought the {A-Diamonds} and Witteles doubled up to over 31,000 chips.

Mueller? ... Mueller?

Mueller Nearly Out
Mueller Nearly Out
On a river of {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, Greg Mueller bets 2,300 and his opponent raises to 8,000. Mueller calls and shows {J-Hearts}{8-Spades}, but his opponent has {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for the rivered flush. Mueller's down to 3,500.

Cova Turns Nuts

We caught the action on the turn on a board of {8-Clubs}{3-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Clubs}. The under-the-gun player led out with a bet of 850 before Noble Simpson popped it up to 2,000. Franco Cova then reraised again, making it 6,000 to go from the button. The UTG folded and Simpson thought for a minute before folding {A-?}{9-?} face up. It was the right move, as Cova flipped over {J-?}{10-?} for the nut straight.

Simpson is down to 31,000 with Cova now up to 33,500.

Dan Kohnen Doubles Up

After a {6-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} flop Dan Kohnen moved all in for his last 12,500 and when his opponent called, Kohnen's {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} had the other player's {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades} in bad shape. The board ran out {7-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} and Kohnen doubled to 27,500.
