van Leest Vanquishes One

Michael van Leest called a short-stacked player's preflop all-in with {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}. His opponent showed {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

The flop came {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}, and van Leest was behind. The turn was the {2-Diamonds}, but the river brought his needed {A-Spades} and his opponent was eliminated. van Leest is back up to 23,000.

Dewey Tomko Eliminated

Please dont let it be king-queen....
Please dont let it be king-queen....
On the river, with a board of {8-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {J-Spades} {10-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}, Dewey Tomko was all in and was called by Magno Cunha. Cunha turned over {K-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} for Broadway, and Tomko held {Q-?} {9-?} for the low end of the straight.

Tomko's quest for another bracelet at this year's WSOP is over, but there is always the WSOP Europe.

Foul Tip

Orel Hershiser and Randall Witt
Orel Hershiser and Randall Witt
After a {J-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {4-Spades} flop Orel Hershiser bet 200 and Randall Witt raised to 650. Hershiser called and then check-called Witt's 1,500 bet when the {5-Diamonds} came on the turn. When the {7-Diamonds} fell on the river Orel checked again and Witt bet 2,100. "I think you would've liked this hand," Hershiser said as he folded his {A-Hearts} {4-Hearts} face up. He'd flopped bottom pair and the nut flush draw but didn't improve from there. When Orel asked, "Did you at least have a pair?" Witt just gave him a little smile and said nothing. He's up to 25,200 and Hershiser still has 32,200.

Duthie Recovers Some Chips

John Duthie
John Duthie
John Duthie called bets on the flop and turn, before the river was checked down on a board of {8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}.

Duthie showed down {8-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for two pair to take it down. Duthie had been struggling today, and is attempting to turn things around as he is now back up to 12,400 chips.

Where Has All the Showboating Gone?

As mentioned before, this year's mood here at the World Series of Poker Main Event is a lot more subdued than in years past. You don't see nearly the amount of antics that you would have normally seen out of players in the past. While a few people may "Hollywood" for the cameras that are around, most of the players have behaved themselves.

After last year's Main Event, Harrah's instituted a new rule referred to as the "Excessive Celebration Rule." This rule will force a penalty on a player that goes overboard with antics while celebrating a win. While this may not make for the most spectacular television, it will make playing much more enjoyable for those out in the field playing.

The "I" in Team

They may both be part of Team PokerStars, but that didn't stop Jeffrey Hakim and Cero Zuccarello from going to war on Blue #12. Hakim raised in middle position to 525, only to see Zuccarello pop him from the cutoff to 1,825. Hakim called, then opened the betting for 2,200 on a flop of {J-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}. Zuccarello called.

Both players checked the {K-Hearts} turn. When the board paired with the {7-Spades} on the river, Hakim bet 5,125. Zuccarello tanked and then called. He mucked his hand when Hakim showed him {A-Spades} {A-Clubs}.

Zuccarello is down to 13,500 chips, while Hakim jumps to over 36,000.

Scott McQueen Eliminated

We caught up to this hand on the flop. With the board reading {K-?} {Q-?} {10-?}, Scott McQueen had all his chips in the middle against a single opponent. The players showed:

McQueen: {A-?} {K-?}
Opponent: {A-?} {J-?}

The turn and river blanked for McQueen and he was sent packing.

Liebert Loses Ground

Kathy Liebert, during Event #41
Kathy Liebert, during Event #41
We caught the action on the turn with Kathy Liebert firing 2,000 into the middle on a board of {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{9-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. Her opponent in the cutoff position made the call. The river was the the {6-Spades} and both players checked it down.

Liebert asked "Do you have a pair?"

The reply was "Of course!" as he tabled {A-?}{9-?} for top two pair. Liebert mucked her hand as she slips to about 19,000.

Tyner Shows Fischman a Boat

Nancy Todd Tyner
Nancy Todd Tyner
We caught up to this hand on the flop. With the board reading {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds}, Scott Fischman bet 600 from the cutoff seat. His lone opponent, Nancy Todd Tyner, made the call from the button. The turn fell the {9-Hearts} and Fischman checked. Tyner bet 600 and Fischman raised to 2,100. Tyner called. The {A-Clubs} hit the river. Fischman bet 7,000 and Tyner smooth-called. She showed {A-Spades} {9-Spades} and Fischman curiously mucked.

She later told him she didn't raise because she feared {A-?} {Q-?}. She climbed to about 36,000 chips on the hand while Fischman slipped to just over 14,000.
