ElkY Feeling Flushed

New Look, Less Chips
New Look, Less Chips
We caught the action on the turn when the cry of "All In! Call! Table 2" and frantic paddle-waving of the dealer caught our attention. We rushed over to see Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier turn over {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a flush on a board of {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. However his opponent gleefully slammed down {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} on the table for the nut flush to leave "ElkY" drawing dead.

The river was a meaningless {A-Clubs} and "ElkY" doubles up his opponent to find himself crippled with only 3,500 chips.

Hats A Plenty

Just in the first few rows of the Brasilia room, there are plenty of players sporting a wide variety of hats and head gear. There are players rocking berets, cowboy hats, custom-styled bandanas, visors, headbands, and even a player with a chip bag on his head.

This year's WSOP has been somewhat lacking the usual costumes and attire that people show up in, but the Brasilia room is full of some great head gear today.

David Epstein Drops the Hammer

David Epstein called Greice Yamaguchi's preflop raise from late position with the {2-Clubs} {7-Clubs}. His suited "hammer" ended up outrunning her {J-?} {J-?} when the board came down {10-Spades} {7-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {9-Clubs} and he doubled up to 27,850.

Yamaguchi was left with only 8,000.

Two Barrels Not Enough For Tony G

Tony G Down to 10,300
Tony G Down to 10,300
Tony G is known for his aggressive play at the tables, but at the moment he is struggling to overcome the aggression of his opponents. In a recent pot, Tony and two others saw a dangerous looking flop of {7-Spades}{J-Spades}{8-Spades}.

The action checked to Tony on the button, who fired out 1,200. Both opponents made the call.

The turn was the {Q-Clubs} and again they checked to Tony, who fired a second bullet worth 2,500. One player called before the third player moved all in for 16,900 to force both opponents out of the pot. A frustrated Tony G is now down to 10,300 chips.

The Obliging Dmitri Nobles

With the board reading {Q-Hearts} {7-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {5-Clubs}, Dmitri Nobles bet 4,700 and Yannick Schroeyen thought a bit before mucking his hand. "Show him the bluff," someone at the table said, and Nobles flipped over the {10-Clubs} {9-Clubs}. Nobles now sits with 36,700.

Mercier Moves Up

Isabelle Mercier
Isabelle Mercier
Isabelle Mercier watched the turn card come to make a board of {K-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}.

She checked, and her opponent bet 3,000. Mercier then check-raised to 9,000. Her opponent shoved, and being covered by her opponent, Mercier put the rest of her chips in the middle.

Mercier showed {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} for the flopped set, way ahead of her opponent who held {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}.

The river was the {9-Diamonds}, and Mercier has doubled up to 30,000.

More Chips for Moneymaker

Chris Moneymaker led out for 800 preflop from early position after a player had limped in under the gun. The small blind called the bet, but the under-the-gun player moved all in for 11,425 more. Chris made the call and the small blind got out of the way.

Chris showed A-Q and would need help after his opponent showed pocket kings. An ace fell on the flop to give Chris top pair and his opponent failed to improve.

After the hand, Chris is up to 51,650

Grospellier Doubles

Bertrand Grospellier
Bertrand Grospellier
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier raised it up from middle position to 800 and found a caller in the cutoff.

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades} and Grospellier fired out 1,100. Again his opponent just flat-called. The turn was the {A-Spades} and this time Grospellier moved all in for his last 1,500 chips and his opponent again called.

Grospellier had caught a pair on the turn with his {A-Spades}{8-Hearts}, as his opponent might have regretted slow-playing his pocket queens. The river brought the {5-Spades} and Grospellier doubles to 8,000 chips.
