The Champ Doubles Up!

Jerry Yang
Jerry Yang
Jerry Yang opened with a raise preflop to 600, before an opponent made it 2,200 to go. Yang flat called.

They saw a flop of {5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Yang's opponent bet out 2,900 before Yang moved all in for 4,375. His opponent made the call.

Yang: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}
Opponent: {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

The turn was the {9-Diamonds} and river the {Q-Spades} to give Yang the pot as he goes around the rail shaking everyone's hands. He's now back up to about 15,000.

Enter the Cunix

Our current chip lead is Shawn Cunix. This is his second Main Event. He played two years ago and said that he was an early chip leader and got involved in a lot of hands and lost that lead. He got into this year's Main Event through an online satellite. He enters today's Main Event with over $153,000 in career tournament earnings.

Currently, Cunix sits with 105,000 in chips.

Willing to Fold A-A Preflop

Rick Fuller opened the pot for 800, a late position player reraised to 2,800 and Fuller moved all in for 12,000. The LP player paused and took her earphones off as she asked the dealer to count down Fuller's stack. About a minute later, she called and rolled over {A-?} {A-?}.

"What took you so long?" asked Fuller as he turned over {K-?} {K-?}.

"If you had me covered, I would have folded" she replied.

The aces held and Fuller was eliminated.

Nice Flop

It was folded around to Dominic Kay in the small blind who made it 1,000 to play. C K Hua called from the big blind before the flop came {6-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {4-Hearts}.

Kay continued the aggression by betting 1,500 and he received a call from Hua before the turn came {K-Spades}.

Kay paused and looked down at his cards once more and then edgily bet 3,000 into the pot. Hua looked at his opponent and raised it up to 8,000. Kay immediately moved all in for a couple of thousand more. Hua made a reluctant call with {A-Spades} {5-Spades} for an open ended straight draw.

Kay tabled {5-Hearts} {7-Clubs} for the flopped straight. The river came {9-Clubs} sending the pot Kay's way. He's up to 28,000 now whereas Hua drops back to 58,000.

Mizrachi Grinds Back

Michael "the Grinder" Mizrachi was short-stacked earlier, down to just 3,300, and was able to double up after calling a raise preflop of 1,200. The flop ran {J-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} and Mizrachi moved all in for his remaining 1,425. His opponent called and showed {A-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} for ace-high while Mizrachi had {K-Hearts} {6-Hearts}. The turn and river ran low and Mizrcahi was able to double up. After the hand, he's back to 5,700.

Flansburg Spikes Set Over Set

After heavy betting on all streets on a board of {5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}, Scott Flansburg insta-called the all-in shove of his opponent, when the {J-Spades} spiked on the river.

His opponent flipped {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} for a flopped set, but Flansburg had rivered a bigger set holding {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. The miracle river eliminates his opponent as Flansburg jumps up to 43,000.

Cyndy Down Then Up

Cyndy Violette
Cyndy Violette
Cyndy Violette took a hit earlier, but she was able to double up after running pocket kings into pocket jacks. Cyndy flopped a set and her opponent was drawing thin. After the hand, Cyndy is now up to 23,000.

Stone Silence

The players in the Blue Section of the Amazon Room must think they're in a library. They are hardly talking at all. Even when someone does have something to say, it's generally whispered at a low level to a nearby player.

The loudest comments we've heard all day are the staccato "All in and call on Table #__" that punctuate the chirping of shuffled poker chips at regular intervals.

Pocket Kings Get 'Breyfogled'

A player under the gun opened the betting with a raise to 800. Action passed around to Todd Breyfogle, and he made the call from middle position.

The heads-up flop came out {8-Spades} {7-Spades} {5-Spades}. The unknown player bet out 2,000, and Breyfogle moved all in for a total of 9,000. His opponent called, and the hands were shown down:

Breyfogle: {7-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}
Opponent: {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs}

Fourth and fifth streets brought the {4-Spades} and {2-Hearts} respectively. Breyfogle's set of sevens holds up, and he doubles up to 21,000.

The Mike Tag Team

Mike Halioua made a raise from middle position that Mike Sica called before a player in the small blind moved all in for 4,500. Both the Mikes called before the flop came {3-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}.

Both players checked, so the turn came {5-Hearts}. This time Halioua bet 3,000 but Sica folded. Good job, too, as Halioua showed {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts} for quads. The all-in player could only muster {J-Spades} {J-Hearts} and was eliminated.

Halioua up to 41,800 now.
