Koral Takes One Off Ivey

Tom Koral raised from UTG before Phil Ivey three bet. Koral called so we went to a {Q-Spades} {4-Clubs} {10-Clubs} flop. Koral check-called Ivey's bet and did the same thing on the {10-Diamonds} turn. They both checked the {2-Diamonds} river and Koral took the lot with {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}.

Koral -- 195,000
Ivey -- 90,000

Kravchenko Drawn and Quartered

Alex Kravchenko raised from the cutoff seat, and Daniel Alaei reraised out of the small blind. Kravchenko called, and it was heads up from here on out.

The board ran down {K-Spades} {8-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}, with Alaei betting and Kravchenko calling on each street. In the end, Kravchenko tabled {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {9-Clubs} against Alaei's {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {5-Spades}. The two men shared the high half of the pot with their matching pairs of aces. Unfortunately for Kravchenko, he had no low to go with his black aces, and he was only good for one quarter of the pot.

Lawson Spared from Elimination

On a flop of {6-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {4-Clubs}, Ted Lawson put out the first bet. Daniel Negreanu raised it up, and Chau Giang called. Action was back on Lawson, and he three-bet it, getting both opponents to call.

The turn card brought the {Q-Hearts}. Lawson bet out his final 7,000 chips, and both Negreanu and Giang called, putting the short stack all in for his tournament livelihood. The river was the {7-Diamonds}, and it was checked down.

Lawson rolled over {A-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {3-Clubs} for the nut low, and Negreanu showed {A-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} for two pair. Giang studied his cards and determined that he couldn't compete for either half of the pot, so he returned his cards to the dealer face-down. Negreanu and Lawson take half the pot each, chopping up Giang's money.

Giang - 110,000
Negreanu - 136,000
Lawson - 85,000

Fall From Grace

JR been shot down
JR been shot down
Jean-Robert Bellande is out after having a near chip lead stack a little while ago. Chau Giang and Annie Duke did the job on him. Bellande got the last of his chips in on a {4-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} board but the other two kept at it creating a side pot through the {A-Hearts} turn and {3-Hearts} river.

Giang ended up taking the low pot with {2-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds}. Duke took the high pot with {Q-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {J-Spades} {10-Spades} and Bellande is out after his {A-Spades} {2-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} was left out of the spoils.

Bellande and Giang Quartered

We pick up the action in a multi-way pot with the flop already on board. It showed {6-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {6-Spades}. Ben Boyd, Daniel Negreanu, and Chau Giang checked. Annie Duke bet, Jean-Robert Bellande called, Boyd called, Negreanu folded, and Giang called as well.

Fourth street brought the {8-Diamonds}. When the action checked to Duke, she bet again. She got two callers this time, with Boyd ducking out.

The river came the {8-Clubs}, and both Giang and Bellande check-called one more bet from Annie Duke.

Showdown
Duke: {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}
Giang: {A-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {7-Hearts}
Bellande: {A-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}

Duke takes the high half with her aces up, while Giang and Bellande will have to make do with a quarter each, splitting it up with matching nut lows.

Abecassis to Exist

Michel Abecassis, Ted Lawson and Daniel Negreanu all saw a {Q-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {8-Clubs} flop. There was a lot of action here that was too much for Lawson to stand but ended with Abecassis all in against Negreanu.

Negreanu tabled {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {J-Spades} {8-Spades} for trips. We didn't catch Abecassis' hand but we believe he had a flush draw. The turn came {9-Spades} and river {10-Diamonds} to seal the Frenchman's exit.

Negreanu -- 171,000.

Kessler Kicked Out

Allen Kessler cut down

Tom Koral came in with a raise, and Allen Kessler three-bet it, committing the rest of his chips to the pot right there. Pat Pezzin called from the big blind, and Koral put in the extra bet as well.

The board ran out {10-Clubs} {6-Spades} {9-Hearts} {10-Spades} {J-Clubs}, with the two live players checking on the flop and turn. On the river, Pezzin's single bet was enough to fold Koral.

Pezzin tabled {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}, and his nut straight was good enough to eliminate 'The Chainsaw' from the field. After that knockout, we are down to 36 players, and we've broken another table.

Snippets Of Goings On

Steve Zolotow just eliminated Matt Glantz with his {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} scooping against Glanz's {J-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {3-Spades} on a {7-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {K-Clubs} board. It all went in preflop.

Phil Ivey has been building his stack nice and slowly and is up to 260,000 now. In his latest hand he made Annie Duke lay down at the turn stage with the board showing {10-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}.

Bjorin Back From the Dead

Chris Bjorin - back in the game
Chris Bjorin - back in the game
In this three-way tangle, the community cards came down {3-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {2-Spades}.

Day 1 chip leader Chris Bjorin was all in by fourth street, and there was action between Allen Kessler and Justin "BoostedJ" Smith on the side. Kessler bet the turn, and Smith called. On the river, Kessler let his opponent make the bet before calling.

Showdown
Bjorin: {A-Spades} {4-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {5-Spades}
Kessler: {A-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {J-Hearts}
Smith: {2-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {4-Spades} {A-Diamonds}

Bjorin managed to scoop the main pot with his straight to the six on top and the wheel on the bottom. The two other opponents chopped up the side pot, Kessler's sixty-four taking the low, and Smith's set of deuces good for the high. Kessler was none too pleased to see that deuce on the river take away a full half of the main pot from him.

After that big exchange, Bjorin has 115,000, Smith has 155,000, and Kessler is down to 25,000.
