Scott Seiver Doubles through Kenny Tran

"I think my kings are good here"
"I think my kings are good here"
Kenny Tran and Scott Seiver got their stacks in the middle before the flop, Tran's {Q-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} needing some serious help against Seiver's {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts}. No miracles for "Sick Call Kenny" on this hand, however, as the board ran out {J-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {9-Clubs} to give Seiver the double-up.

After the hand, Seiver was up to 330,000 while Tran was left with 150,000.

First Bracelet Ceremony of the WSOP

WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack presents Andrew Cohen with his gold bracelet for winning Event No. 1
WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack presents Andrew Cohen with his gold bracelet for winning Event No. 1
While play continues in the $40K no-limit hold'em event over in the Orange section of the Amazon, the first official gold bracelet ceremony is taking place over at a podium near the televised table arena on the other side of the room.

Andrew Cohen of Las Vegas, winner of the Casino Employees Event last night (Event No. 1), just received his gold bracelet from WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack, followed by the playing of a rousing recording of the United States' national anthem.

Afterwards, three minutes were added to the tourney clock for the current level, about the same amount of time it took to get to "home of the brave."

Sorel Mizzi Doubles Up

From under the gun Sorel Mizzi raised to 12,500. Michael DeMichele then reraised to 29,000 from middle position. Action folded back around to Mizzi who made the call.

The flop came down {8-Clubs} {8-Spades} {4-Spades} . Mizzi bet 40,000 and DeMichele made the call. The turn brought the {4-Diamonds} and Mizzi bet again, this time for 90,500. DeMichele called.

The river was the {4-Hearts} putting a full house on board. Mizzi moved all in for 170,000 and DeMichele called him down for the third street in a row.

Mizzi showed {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} for fours full of aces. DeMichele mucked his hand without showing and Mizzi took down the pot.

Sorel Mizzi - 700,000
Michael DeMichele - 100,000

Nice Turn for Tran

We picked up the action on the turn in this one. With the board showing {3-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{4-Spades}{7-Hearts}, Steve Billirakis checked from the big blind, and J.C. Tran fired out 23,000 from late position. Billirakis made the call.

The river was the {Q-Spades}. This time Billirakis led out for 16,500, Tran raised to 45,000, and Billirakis called. Tran turned over {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for the turned set, and Billirakis mucked.

Tran is up to 200,000, while Billirakis currently has 275,000.

John Duthie Eliminated by Frank Kassela

EPT creator John Duthie
EPT creator John Duthie
With the action folded to him in the small blind, Frank Kassela made it 17,500 to go. John Duthie put in a reraise from the big blind and Kassela made the call.

The flop came down {J-Spades} {7-Clubs} {4-Spades}. Kassela bet 125,000, setting Duthie all in and the Englishman made the call.

Duthie {10-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}
Kassela {8-Diamonds} {8-Spades}

Duthie was looking good to earn a double-up, but the {8-Clubs} cruelly spiked on the turn, making Kassela a set. The river was the {Q-Diamonds} and Duthie made his exit with a smile and a handshake, despite the two-outer.

After the hand, Kassela was up to 497,000.

No Hide and Seek, Please

With 84 players remaining, our average chip count is currently about 287,000, meaning there are lots of those dark green 25,000 chips in play.

An announcement was made for players to be sure to keep those 25,000 chips visible to others, either by placing them atop their stacks or in a separate stack in front of their other chips.

Happy Trails for Corkins

With 30,000 in the pot and the board showing {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{10-Clubs}, Hoyt Corkins pushed all in with his last 100,000 and Greg Raymer made the call. Corkins turned over {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} for the open-ended straight draw, while Raymer showed {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}.

The turn was the {Q-Diamonds} and the river the {K-Diamonds}, and Corkins has been eliminated. With that hand, Raymer improves to 370,000.

The Dragon Slays Schwartz

Barry Schwartz and David "The Dragon" Pham both started the day with below average stacks of less than 200,000. Just now, the pair got it all in preflop, with Pham having Schwartz slightly covered. Pham tabled {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} and Schwartz {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}.

The board came {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}, and Pham's cowboys held up. Schwartz is out. Pham is up to 380,000.
