Rast Rising, Fitoussi Foundering, Devilfish Done

Brian Rast
Brian Rast
Brian Rast just won a couple of nice-sized pots to move his stack closer to the million-chip mark.

In the first, Rast found himself all in on the turn against Bruno Fitoussi with the board showing {7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. Rast had {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} for aces, but Fitoussi had {A-Spades}{5-Spades} for two pair. However, the {Q-Clubs} on the river paired the board, counterfeiting Fitoussi's hand and giving Rast the huge 800,000-chip pot. Fitoussi was down to 200,000 after that one.

In the next hand, Rast called Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott's all in of approximately 100,000. Rast showed {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, well behind Ulliott's {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}. But the flop brought Rast his needed seven -- {A-Spades}{6-Hearts}{7-Hearts} -- and no king came on the turn or river to save Devilfish. Ulliott is out, and Rast is up to 910,000.

Lex "RaSZi" Veldhuis - First Player Over $1 Million; Eliminates DeMichele With Quads

RaSZi - Million Dollar Man
RaSZi - Million Dollar Man
On a board of {10-Spades} {8-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} Michael DeMichele gets it all in against Lex "RaSZi" Veldhuis. DeMichele showed {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} but Veldhuis rolled over {8-Hearts} {8-Spades} for quads eights!

Veldhuis took the pot and eliminated DeMichelle in a pot of over 600,000. Still stacking chips, Veldhuis appears to be the first player in this $40,000 event to break the million chip mark.

Seif Sends to Townsend

Brian Townsend
Brian Townsend
Just had a big chip shift occur between Brian Townsend and Mark Seif.

Johannes Strassmann opened with a raise of 16,000 from the hijack seat, and Seif reraised to 41,000 from the button. Townsend then repopped it to 100,000 from the big blind. Strassmann folded, and Seif made the call.

The flop came {8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. Townsend bet 86,000, and Seif called. Both checked the {10-Hearts} on the turn. When the {3-Diamonds} appeared on the river, Townsend pushed 295,000 chips into the middle, leaving himself just a few behind. Seif tanked for some time, then made the call.

Townsend showed {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} for top pair, top kicker, and Seif mucked. Townsend is now closing in on the million-chip mark with 950,000, while Seif is back down to 155,000.

Giang Surviving

After Chris Moore and Steve Weinstein had both limped, Andrew "good2cu" Robl raised from the button 26,500, then Chau Giang raised all in from the big blind for his last 65,000. Both the limpers folded, and Robl made the call.

Giang showed {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, while Robl turned over {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. The board came {4-Spades}{6-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{K-Spades}, and Giang moved back up to 160,000. Robl now has 280,000.

J.C. Tran Outruns Jess Yawitz

Jess Yawitz
Jess Yawitz
J.C. Tran opened from early position and Jess Yawitz moved all in for a bit over 100,000. Tran made the call and their hole cards revealed a classic race situation.

Yawitz {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs}
Tran {A-Spades} {K-Spades}

An ace on the flop and a king on the turn gave the pot to Tran and Yawitz met his tournament end. After the hand, Tran's stack soared past 500,000.
