Levine Out in 29th, Brodie on the Rise

With the board showing {Q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{J-Hearts}, Richard Brodie checked, Josh Levine bet, Brodie check-raised, Levine three-bet, and Brodie called.

The river was the {8-Spades}. Brodie checked, Levine bet, Brodie again check-raised, and Levine called with the last of his chips. Brodie showed {10-Spades}{9-Hearts} for the rivered straight, and Levine tabled pocket kings. Levine is out in 28th ($4,871), and Brodie is now way up to 220,000.

Bonomo Bounced in 30th

Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo
Both Matt Keikoan and Justin Bonomo were among the short stacks when this hand began. Keikoan raised from early position, Bonomo raised from the cutoff, and Keikoan called. The flop came {7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, and the pair got the rest of Bonomo's chips in the middle.

Keikoan showed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for top pair of queens, and Bonomo {A-Spades}{J-Spades}. The turn was a jack, giving Bonomo more hope, but the river blanked out and Bonomo is out in 30th ($4,871).

Keikoan is still short, though, with 65,000.

Darden Downed in 31st

Paul Darden raised from middle position, Al "Sugar Bear" Barbieri three-bet from the button, Darden four-bet, and Barbieri called. The flop came {7-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. Darden bet with his last 2,000, and Barbieri called.

Darden {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Barbieri {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

Darden was looking for a king or eight to survive. The turn was the {A-Spades}, and now he needed a ten. But the river was the {Q-Hearts}, and Darden is out in 31st, earning $4,871. Barbieri now has 178,000.

Waiting for Those Antes to Kick In? Keep Waiting

"Why are there no antes?" a player just asked his tablemates over at Table #183. (Incidentally, for those keeping score at home, officials have changed our table numbers not once but twice since players took their seats earlier today.)

Indeed, in limit hold'em tourneys, no antes are introduced. But those blinds/limits are going up, up, up.

With 31 players left, our average stack is 93,339 -- less than 10 big bets here in Level 17. Those with below average stacks are certainly glad right now there are no antes to pay as well.

Eichel Out

William Eichel
William Eichel
William Eichel was all in before the flop and against three other players, including Al Barbieri. Barbieri bet the flop of {10-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{J-Spades}, and both of the other remaining players called, but when he bet the {2-Spades} on the turn, the others got out.

Barbieri showed {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and Eichel {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}. "Don't do it to me," said Eichel. Alas, the proverbial "it" was done to him, as the {K-Hearts} landed on the river, giving Barbieri the pot.

Eichel is out in 32nd place ($4,871). Barbieri is up to 156,000.

Li Leaps Ahead

Paul Darden raised from the hijack seat, Yan Peng Li called the two bets from the cutoff, and Al "Sugar Bear" Barbieri called from the big blind as well.

The flop came {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. It checked to Li who bet, Barbieri folded, and Darden called. The turn was the {5-Spades}. Darden checked, Li bet, and Darden called.

The river was the {2-Spades}, and both players checked. Darden showed {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} for ace-high, while Li tabled {J-Spades}{10-Hearts} for tens. Li is up to 140,000, while Darden is now at 45,000.

Buckley Busted

Jim Buckley and Paul Corning each got four bets in before the flop, leaving Buckley less than one small bet behind. The flop came {7-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, and the pair got the last of Buckley's chips in the middle.

Buckley showed {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}, while Corning had {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}. The turn was the {8-Hearts} and the river the {6-Spades}, and Buckley hit the rail in 33rd place ($4,871).

Corning now has 95,000.
