Cantu Leads Out

Under the gun, Alex Jacob came in raising to 200,000. Brandon Cantu made the call from the big blind, and it was heads up to the flop.

It came down {4-Spades} {10-Spades} {5-Clubs}. Cantu led out into the pot with 300,000. Jacob went deep into the tank, shooting the occasional glance over at Cantu before letting his hand go.

Tyler Spalding Eliminated in 5th Place ($143,421)

Alex Jacob opened the pot with a raise to 200,000 from the cutoff seat. In the big blind, Tyler Spalding moved all in for a total of 575,000, and Jacob quickly called. Spalding cringed.

Showdown
Jacob: {9-Spades} {9-Diamonds}
Spalding: {J-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds}

The board wouldn't provide much of a sweat for Spalding as it ran out {10-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}. Failing to overcome Jacob's pocket pair, Tyler Spalding has been sent packing in 5th place. For his efforts over the past three days, he'll pick up a check for $143,421.

Updated Chip Counts

There's a pileup at the top of the leader board:

Alex Jacob - 3,480,000
Ray Foley - 3,300,000
Wei Mu - 3,200,000
Brandon Cantu - 2,400,000
Tyler Spalding - 650,000

Jonathan Markham Eliminated in 6th Place ($114,514)

Under the gun, Jonathan Markham put in a raise to 210,000. The bet came all the way around the table to his immediate right where Wei Mu was in the big blind. He thought for a good while, counted out the chips in one hand, and slowly dropped them into the pot.

The flop brought {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {J-Spades}. Mu checked, and Markham continued out with a bet of 265,000. Mu then moved all in, and Markham quickly called.

Showdown
Markham: {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}
Mu: {Q-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}

"Oh, cooler!" said someone on the rail. Indeed, it was a sick flop for both players. Middle set was way behind the flopped straight of Mu. Needing to pair the board, Markham saw a blank {6-Spades} hit the turn. Still looking for that pair, the river brought no help with the {3-Spades}.

Despite flopping a set of kings, Jonathan Markham had the worst hand. He's been sent to the exit in 6th place, good for nearly $115,000.

Jacob and Cantu Joust

Alex Jacob
Alex Jacob
Brandon Cantu and Alex Jacob have been content to stay out of each other's way for the majority of the day, but the two familiar faces finally butted heads in a massive pot.

It started when Brandon Cantu opened yet another pot with a raise to 230,000. Alex Jacob made the call next door, and it was heads up to the flop.

It came down {6-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}. Cantu checked, and Jacob fired out a bet of 300,000. After some quick calculations, Cantu called.

The turn brought the {2-Spades} and a check from both players. On the river, the {10-Spades} drew another check from Cantu. Jacob paused for a brief moment before quietly announcing, "All in." Cantu stood up from his chair with a puzzled look on his face. It was clear the gears were turning in his head, but he ended up making the wrong decision. With either confidence or longing in his voice, he firmly announced a call. Jacob quickly and quietly turned over {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts}.

"SH*T!" Cantu whispered, though it was plenty loud enough to be heard throughout the featured table area. He flung his cards in the muck and shook his head. As the floor person was counting down Jacob's stack, Cantu mouthed the words, "Why'd I do that?" to himself.

After that monumental turnaround, Cantu has taken a big step back to 2,320,000. And that means that we have a new chip leader. With 3,640,000, Alex Jacob is now firmly atop the board.

Cantu Picks Up Where He Left Off

Brandon Cantu is certainly back in action, anyway. He's won the first two pots back from break. On the first, a preflop raise to 275,000 from the small blind was good enough to pick up the antes and Alex Jacob's big blind. On the second, Cantu's raise to 230,000 found action from Ray Foley in the big blind. On a flop of {7-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}, a continuation bet of 325,000 was all it took to send Foley's cards to the muck.
