Event 40 - $10,000 World Championship Pot Limit Omaha

Day 1 Completed

Like J-T-7-6 On A 9-8-2 Board...

Noah Schwartz
Noah Schwartz
That's a wrap.

Today we were fortunate enough to see 295 of the world's best players hit the felt for a fast-paced day of PLO action. For the first time at this year's WSOP the biggest names in the game were all on show. Ivey, Negreanu, Farha, Antonius, Hansen and Dwan were just some of the names that came and went as around 117 players made it through the day.

They will return tomorrow at 2pm and attempt to make it to the final table on Monday. At short glance it appears to us that Noah Schwartz is the chip leader with 292,600. Ilari Sahamies, Josh Arieh, Steve Zolotow and David Williams all lurk close behind.

We'll look forward to your company again tomorrow as we play down to our final table! See you then!

Trickett Out

On the last hand of the night Sam Trickett was all in with {A-?} {A-?} X X against {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {10-Hearts} but the board came {9-Spades} {3-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {J-Clubs} to eliminate the young English pro right at the end of the night.

Clock Stopped

We're now playing the last three hands of the day and then those remaining will be coming back tomorrow to flip coins for stacks...I mean play more PLO.

Zolotow Escapes Set Over Set

Steve Zolotow
Steve Zolotow
Steve Zolotow found himself in one of the worst spots in poker on a flop of {2-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. He held {9-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for a set but Robert Mizrachi committed all of his chips holding {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades} for top set to leave Zolotow in trouble.

However the turn was the {J-Clubs} and river the {8-Clubs} to give Zolotow an unlikely running straight to collect the pot and and leave Mizrachi shaking his head all the way to the rail.

"I'm sorry," was all that Zolotow could say as he now sits with 215,000 chips.

Sandra Naujoks Eliminated

On a board reading {j-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs} Sandra Naujoks was put to a decision for the last of her chips by Len Ashby, as she went into the tank to ponder the decision.

She eventually made the call but couldn't beat the {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} of Ashby as she mucked and exited the room much to our disappointment.

McEvoy Eliminates Ferguson

In a reraised pot preflop, Tom McEvoy and Chris Ferguson got all their chips in on a {Q-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} board. Ferguson was leading with {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {5-Diamonds} but McEvoy's {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {4-Spades} had a double gutshot. The turn was the {3-Hearts} which put McEvoy back in the lead and the river was the {6-Hearts} which improved him to a straight.

McEvoy had Ferguson just covered and one former WSOP champion eliminated another.

Nam Le's Aces Somehow Hold

In a raising war between Marcel Luske, Nam Le and a third player got it all in preflop with the Dutchman covering.

Luske: {A-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {7-Spades}
Le: {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {4-Spades}
Third Player: {10-Clubs} {10-Spades} {8-Hearts} {6-Clubs}

The board came out {8-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {Q-Spades} {5-Spades} {2-Diamonds} leaving everyone rechecking their cards. Nam Le's aces were still good but even he was unsure saying, "Did I win that?"
