Simon Says

Give me your chips.

Here are a couple of hands involving the television producer and writer Sam Simon, best known for his involvement such shows as "The Simpsons," "Taxi," and "Cheers."

In the first, Charlie Ciresi opened with a raise to 275 from under the gun and got three callers, including Simon from middle position. The flop came {10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. It checked to Ciresi who bet 625, then Simon raised to 1,500, forcing all, including Ciresi, to fold. Ciresi was at 27,000 after that one, and Simon up to 31,500.

Soon after, Ciresi and Simon were involved in another modest-sized hand. Once again there were four players seeing a flop, which came {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. When it checked to Simon, he bet 1,600, and it folded around to Ciresi who called from the big blind. The turn was the {4-Diamonds}. Ciresi checked, Simon bet 2,500, and Ciresi folded.

Simon is now at 35,000.

Charania Bests Minieri

Seated over in the red section are Dutch Boyd, Yuval Bronshtein, Dario Minieri, and Mohsin Charania. Not that big of a deal, right? Well, they're all at the same table. Boyd, Bronshtein, and Minieri are occupying seats one through three, while Charania is in seat eight.

On a flop of {A-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {3-Clubs}, Minieri fired a bet of 1,300 into his lone opponent Charania. He was called.

The turn brought the {9-Clubs} and Minieri bet out 3,100 this time. Again, Charania made the call.

The river came the {4-Hearts} and both players checked. Charania opened up {A-Clubs} {9-Spades} and Minieri mucked his hand.

Minieri Shrinking

Barely there
Barely there
Oh dear, just when we thought he couldn't get any smaller, Mr. Dario Minieri has managed to lose almost half his stack already.

He raised to 700 and Dutch Boyd called him to see a {6-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {K-Spades} flop. Boyd checked, and then called 925 from Minieri.

They proceeded to the {2-Spades} turn and this time Boyd check-called 2,100 from Minieri.

Both checked the {3-Hearts} river -- and Boyd flipped {Q-Hearts} {9-Hearts} for a flush. Minieri mucked, and is down to 15,600.

Schlein Slips

Josh Schlein has taken a hit after being caught with his hand in the cookie jar. After calling a preflop raise, Schlein fired 575 into the middle on a {J-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop. He found one fold and one call.

The turn brought the {8-Spades} and both players checked before the {Q-Clubs} landed on the river. The action was again checked to Schlein who released 875 into the middle. His opponent thought for a moment and made the call.

Schlein tabled {6-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for a busted straight draw that left him with just six-high. His opponent then revealed {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades} for a great call down. Schlein slips to 26,000.

A Hit to Hall

After a flop of {K-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades}, Tom Hall led out with a bet of 550 from the small blind, and his opponent on the button called. The turn was the {8-Spades}. Hall bet 1,200, and again got the call.

The river brought the {10-Hearts}. Hall again bet, 1,600 this time, to which his opponent responded with a raise to 4,500. Hall thought a moment, then made the call.

The player on the button showed {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for the flopped set, and Hall mucked. After gathering some chips during the first part of the first hour, Hall is back at 28,100 now.

Demidov Off to Rocky Start

Folded to him, 2008 Main Event runner-up Ivan Demidov opens with a button raise to 300, only the big blind would come along.

The flop would bring {6-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {10-Hearts} . The big blind check-raised Demidov's continuation bet of 450 to 1500 total. Demidov made the call. The turn fell the {8-Hearts} . Once again Mr. Big Blind would check it over to Ivan, who then bet 2,325, call. River {2-Clubs}. After another check, Demidov would think it over for a minute before betting 5,000. The big blind insta-called.

Demidov tables {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs} , but his opponent quickly slammed his {6-Hearts} {2-Hearts} down on the table in all its glory (maybe it was a little flashy since the ESPN cameras were filming).

Ivan is down to 17,100.

You Don't Get Nothing For Frie

Adam Friedman raised to 250 and received a call from the cutoff, only for the small blind to make it 1,200 to go. Friedman and Mr. Cutoff both called, and they saw a flop.

Flop: {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}

The small blind now checked and so did Friedman. Mr. Cutoff now bet 2,000 and Mr. Small Blind gave it up, but Friedman called once more.

Friedman checked again on the {3-Spades} turn -- but this time he folded when Mr. Cutoff bet 3,500.

Friedman down to 17,000 already.

Sheikhan Slips

Shawn Sheikhan in action
Shawn Sheikhan in action
Shawn Sheikhan opened with a raise to 250, and found three callers including Benjamin Kang.

The flop fell down {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, and the action was checked round to the player in the cutoff who led out with a 1,500-chip bet.

Sheikhan called while both the remaining players, including Kang, folded to see the {7-Spades} fall on the turn and a check from Sheikhan follow.

Now met with a 3,000-chip bet, Sheikhan made the call before check-folding when the {Q-Diamonds} fell on the river followed by a 7,000-chip bet by his opponent.

After chipping up early, Sheikhan has now slipped to 22,500 in chips.

Morgan Chipping Up Early

Jordan Morgan has been fairly active during the first level, now chipping up to over 38,000 after starting strong early.

With a board reading {10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{Q-Spades}, and around 7,000 in the pot, Morgan fired out a bet of 6,100 into his opponent.

Thinking long and hard for over three minutes, his opponent eventually folded to see Morgan take down yet another pot.

Lemke Chips Up

We caught the action on a board of {8-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs} with Brian Lemke firing a bet of 1,175 from the button. His opponent in the small blind made the call, before leading out for 1,200 on the {8-Hearts} river.

Lemke sighed and made the call with his {K-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. It was good as his opponent mucked. Lemke is at 32,000 chips.
