Jacks No Good for Akkari

The flop was {9-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} between Andre Akkari and his opponent. The two did enough betting to get all in and expose their cards for a showdown before the turn and river came. Akkari held pocket jacks, but was behind his opponent's set of sevens.

The turn brought the {A-Spades}, no help for Akkari. The river was the {4-Clubs} and again no help for Akkari. He's now down to just 5,000 chips.

Harman Slips

Jennifer Harman called a preflop raise of 3,700 and went heads up to a flop of {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. Her opponent led for 4,600 and Harman called again.

The turn brought the {4-Hearts} and a bet of 11,000. Harman dipped her feet into the tank for just a few seconds before releasing her hand.

Daneshgar Gets Busy

A curious hand for David Daneshgar has put him up to 108,000 in chips.

Daneshgar raised to 3,200 in late position and got a call from the cutoff. The big blind unexpectedly reraised to 13,000 and Daneshgar called; so did the cutoff, and they saw a flop.

Flop: {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}

Mr. Big Blind bet out 21,000 and Daneshgar called. The cutoff decided to stop calling all these bets, and folded instead.

Turn: {10-Diamonds}

The big blind now checked to Daneshgar -- who went all in for 62,000. The big blind finally saw the error of his aggro ways, and passed.

Lauria Update

The cutoff seat raised to 3,300 and then Bob Lauria jacked it up to 10,100 from the small blind. The cutoff folded. Lauria raked in the small pot and then stuck his 190,000 chips in a bag as his table broke and he's being moved over to the Amazon room.

Mi-Gone

Brian Micon's Main Event run has ended. Micon shoved his short stack into the middle from under-the-gun and got one caller.

Micon: {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

The race ended quickly with a flop of {10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}. The remainder of the board provided no help, as the last two cards fell {3-Spades}{K-Hearts}, sending Micon to the rail.

Khan Swings and Misses

Heavd Khan had position for a recent hand in which a short-stacked opponent moved all in for 5,200 chips. Khan called and the big blind called as well. Those two players checked all the way down on a board of {6-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {4-Clubs}.

"I think I'm good," said the all-in player as he showed {K-Clubs} {8-Spades}. Khan mucked and the big blind flashed {8-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} before also mucking. The loss of 5,200 chips didn't set Khan back too much from his opening count of 130,400.

Two for One

Over at Dennis Phillips' table, there's a nice amount of railbirds sporting the red St. Louis Cardinals hat and white, patched-up button down that Phillips wore at the Main Event final table last year. Not only are they watching Phillips play, in seat five is another member of their crew, Bryan Swift. Swift is decked out in the same apparel Phillips wore last year. With both players at the table, the railbirds are really getting their fill.

Theory and Practice

Gregory Brooks opened with a raise to 2,300, Carter King called, then Justin Anderson pushed all in for about 35,000 from the cutoff.

Bill Gazes thought for a long while from the button, before finally letting it go. Brooks and King instantly folded as well, prompting a groan from Gazes.

"I thought you had something, raising back-to-back," he said to Brooks who had open-raised the previous hand as well. "In theory," answered Brooks, offering no other information regarding his hand.

After the hand, Anderson asked Gazes what he had.

"Let me give you some advice," said Gazes with a smile. "When you want to know what somebody had, start by saying 'I had _____. What did you have?'" Thus ended the dialogue.

Gazes better have something soon -- he is down to about 42,000 right now.

Steven Van Zadelhoff Chips Up

Steven Van Zadelhoff
Steven Van Zadelhoff
On a board of {K-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {4-Spades} {7-Diamonds}, a player in middle position bet 5,500 and Steven Van Zadelhoff raised to 15,500 from the button. His opponent made the call and the two players saw the {8-Diamonds} fall on the turn.

The player in middle position lead out with a small bet of only 10,000 and Van Zadelhoff made the call.

Middle position: {A-Spades} {6-Clubs}
Van Zadelhoff: {8-Spades} {5-Spades}

Steven Van Zadelhoff took the pot with his rivered two pair and moves to 215,000.

Ivey Creeping Up

Wow, Phil Ivey has had his breakfast glass of aggro juice and is not taking any prisoners.

He saw a {8-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} flop with the gent in the small blind, and bet when it checked to him. Mr. Small Blind raised, and Ivey called.

Come the {3-Diamonds} turn, the small blind bet out 28,000 -- but Ivey asked for a count on him, and then announced all in. A swift fold, and Ivey is up to 376,000.
