Hand for Hand Begins

The clock has been paused with 1:50:51 remaining in Level 16. Tournament Director Jack Effel has just announced that 653 players remain, meaning we are just five eliminations away from the money.

The tournament will be played hand for hand until the cash bubble bursts.

Kremenliev Not Taking Any Chances

We didn't see the preflop action, but on a flop of {8-Spades} {9-Spades} {5-Diamonds}, Peter Kremenliev checked to Benjamin Jensen, then raised Jensen's flop bet to 108,000. Jensen, wielding one of the larger stacks in the tournament, reraised to 225,000. Kremenliev folded {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} face up. That prompted Jensen to show down total air -- {4-Clubs} {3-Hearts}!

Schulman Flexes Bubble Muscle

On a flop of {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs} Nick Schulman checked over to Ed Perry who fired 18,000 from the cutoff. Schulman then check-raised to 55,000 with Perry making the call.

The turn brought the {7-Hearts} and Schulman led out for 120,000. Perry gave it up and Schulman extends himself to 680,000 chips.

Crowe Crushes Butler's Hopes

Brent Butler was down to 50,000 chips. He got them all in preflop with {A-Diamonds} {8-Spades} and was called by Owen Crowe, who showed a pocket pair of fives, {5-Diamonds} {5-Spades}. Butler didn't hit the flop or turn, {4-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {7-Clubs} {k-Clubs}. That left him looking for an ace or an eight on the river. Instead it was a tournament-ending {5-Clubs}, making a set of fives for Crowe to rub some salt in the wound of Butler's elimination from the Main Event just short of the money.

Castella Out

Philippe Castella has been eliminated just a few spots shy of the money. The betting isn't clear, but Sander Lyllof held {A-Spades} {9-Spades}, and Castella was at risk with {K-Spades} {J-Spades}. The board ran {2-Spades} {3-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {10-Spades} {7-Spades}, and Lyllof's flush took care of Castella.

Tata Tito

Eugene Tito has been eliminated just short of the money. We didn't catch the action (it's a little crazy here at the moment) but Tito held {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} against Steve Sanders' {A-Spades}{k-Clubs} when the board ran out {Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{7-Spades}{A-Diamonds} to give Sanders a pair of aces on the river.

Server Woes

We apologize for the technical difficulties over the last half hour or so. The huge traffic load had our servers on the ropes for a while, and they finally decided to throw in the towel and surrender right as the last break hit. We're back in business now though, so get your reading glasses back on and prepare for a blizzard of updates.
