Hellmuth Doesn't Pull the Trigger

Action folded to the recently action-prone Phil Hellmuth on the button. He opened for 15,000 and was called by the small blind before the big blind paused to consider his action.

"Squeeze play?" Hellmuth asked the big blind, whose only reply was to re-raise to 42,000. Hellmuth and the small blind both called to a flop of {8-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}. The small blind checked it over to the big blind, who bet 45,000. Hellmuth and the small blind both folded.

Hellmuth wanted to know what his opponent held.

"I had a hand...not on that flop, but I had a hand," the big blind replied. He flashed {A-?} {K-?}.

"I had you beat," replied the Poker Brat. That may have been true, but the pot was shipped to the big blind.

Bowker Mines for Diamonds

Before the flop, Thomas Joanides and Kyle "kwob20" Bowker were both all in for about 25,000 and 60,000 respectively. Christopher Bach was in the pot as well, and having both men covered, he was looking for the double knockout.

Showdown
Joanides: {7-Hearts} {7-Spades}
Bowker: {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}
Bach: {K-Spades} {K-Clubs}

The flop drew a big collective, "Oooh!" from the table as it came out {6-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} to give Bowker the flush draw. The {3-Diamonds} on the turn was the money card, locking up the pot and the knockout for Kyle. The {4-Hearts} filled out the board, ending Joanides' day and shooting Bowker up to 138,000.

Lemke Busts

Brian Lemke
Brian Lemke
2009 WSOP bracelet winner Brian Lemke was first crippled and then recently eliminated from the Main Event.

In the first hand he pushed with {2-Spades}{3-Clubs} for just a gutshot on a {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop but his opponent made the call with {A-Hearts}{5-Spades} for two pair. Lemke missed his gutshot and was down to just 50,000.

A moment or two later he committed those chips with {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} but Fernando Gordo woke up with {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {Q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} to end the day for Lemke.

Machado and Lesnoy Fall Victim to Jansen

Michael Jansen has been busy at work on Table 30. First he faded Dmitri Lesnoy's 15-card draw on a flop of {J-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {10-Spades}. Lesnoy's {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} failed to improve against Jansen's top pair, {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs}, after all the chips went in. The board bricked out running threes {3-Hearts} {3-Clubs} to eliminate Lesnoy.

A few minutes later Jansen's pocket nines, {9-Hearts} {9-Spades}, went to war on the flop against short-stacked Roberto Machado's {Q-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}. Each player caught a piece of the {J-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} flop. Machado had a combination straight-and-flush draw against Jansen's middle set. Again Jansen faded all the cards he needed to fade, with harmless {6-Spades} and {3-Spades} on theturn and river.

Machado is eliminated just short of the money.

Kang Quads It

Team PokerStars Pro Benjamin Kang
Team PokerStars Pro Benjamin Kang
Benjamin Kang has doubled up after his chips were in the middle on a flop of {5-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{7-Hearts}. Kang was in great shape with {J-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} against his opponent's {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}.

When the turn fell the {7-Clubs} Kang let out a roar of "Yes!!!" as he picked up quads to leave his opponent drawing dead.

The river bricked the {2-Spades} and Kang is alive with over 160,000 chips.

Keven Stammen Eliminated

Keven Stammen moved all in on a board of {J-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{9-Spades} and action folded to Bernard Perner who went into the tank before making the call.

Stammen: {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}
Perner: {K-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Stammen's set was ahead, but Perner had top pair and a gut shot, which came through with the {Q-Spades}.
