Haabak is Back

Jesse Haabak
Jesse Haabak
We picked this one up on the {Q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop, a hand between Tom Schneider, playing from the big blind, and Jesse Haabak, playing from middle position.

Schneider checked, Habaak bet 125,000, and Schneider called. The turn was the {K-Diamonds}. Schneider checked again, Haabak bet 265,000, and Schneider called. That bet left Haabak with just 367,000 left behind.

The river was the {J-Clubs}, and Schneider announced he was all in. Habaak called immediately with his remaining chips. Schneider showed {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for just a pair of fives, and Habaak had {A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} for Broadway on the river.

Habbak chips up to 1.7 million after that one. Schneider is at 2.8 million.

Here Comes Ivey

From middle position, Bob Whalen stuck in a raise to 75,000. Alex Jalali made the call in position, and Phil Ivey elected to reraise from the small blind. After cutting out a stack of chips, Ivey instead moved all in for his entire stack of about 1.8 million. Whalen called all in for 699,000, and that was enough to get Jalali out of the way and put Whalen heads up with Ivey for his tournament life.

Showdown
Whalen: {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}
Ivey: {K-Spades} {K-Clubs}

Things weren't looking good for Whalen, and they wouldn't get any better. The board ran down {J-Clubs} {5-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {J-Spades}, holding Ivey's overpair and sending Whalen off with about 100 players left. After raking in that pot, Ivey has worked his stack up to a very dangerous 2,680,000.

Look out, Main Event.

Bohlman Takes a Pot

Scott Bohlman
Scott Bohlman
Loic Degrou raised to 59,000 from early position and Scott Bohlman made the call from late position. The flop came down {Q-Spades} {7-Spades} {5-Hearts} between the two players.

Degrou fired out 69,000. Bohlman made the call. The turn brought the {5-Spades} and Degrou slowed down by checking. Bohlman took the initiative and bet 175,000. Degrou called.

The river brought the {7-Hearts} and Degrou checked again. Bohlman fired 500,000. Degrou gave up his hand and Bohlman raked in the pot, moving up to 1.6 million in the process.

Joe Hachem Eliminated

Joe Hachem - Out
Joe Hachem - Out
First into the pot, Joe Hachem moved all in for his last 117,000 little chips. The bet came around the table to Billy Kopp, and he messily flicked in the calling chips. Nobody else wanted any action, and it was heads up for Hachem's tournament life.

Showdown
Hachem: {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs}
Kopp: {4-Clubs} {4-Spades}

The flop was a beautiful miss for Hachem as it rolled out {K-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {7-Spades}. A buzz of murmurs swept through the featured table arena as the realization kicked in that Hachem was live to any club, any king, or either of his own overcards. The turn was the {A-Hearts} which was a relative blank, but it did add another two outs for the at-risk World Champ. The crowd once again rose to life as the entire room seemed to be pulling for an out card to hit.

River: {3-Hearts}. Talk about a swing and a miss. Kopp's little pair of fours somehow held up to make the winning two pair. With that, the gregarious Joe Hachem shook hands with his table, wished them all luck, and made his way off to the interview booth.

Anh Van Nguyen Eliminated

Anh Van Nguyen
Anh Van Nguyen
Following a flop of {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, Anh Van Nguyen was all in with {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} against Tian Shou who had {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}. Nguyen had the higher pair, but needed to fade another club or queen to win the hand.

The turn was the {5-Diamonds} and Nguyen was still okay, but the river brought the {6-Clubs}, and Nguyen is out in 106th place.

Benyamine Eliminated with Cracked Aces

We have a new chip leader, courtesy of the elimination of one member of the old guard. We didn't see the preflop action, but it appears that David Benyamine may have made a small raise from the big blind that was called only by Darvin Moon in the small blind.

We picked up the action on the {9-Spades} {3-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} flop, where Moon led into Benyamine with a bet. Benyamine raised; Moon reraised an additional 200,000 above Benyamine's raise. That put the action back to Benyamine, who put in another raise of an additional 300,000 chips. Finally Moon just called.

The turn was the {4-Hearts}. Benyamine had 800,000 chips behind. Moon elected to put him all in. Benyamine called with the best starting hand {A-Hearts} {A-?} but he had been outflopped by Moon's {3-Spades} {3-Diamonds}, a set of treys. The river bricked {Q-Clubs} to end Benyamine's run.

Moon is the new chip leader with roughly 5.7 million chips.

Patchell Out, Nourafchan New Leader

Joel Patchell opened with a raise to 60,000, Hamid Nourafchan reraised to 160,000, and it folded back to Patchell who called.

The flop came {8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. Patchell checked, Nourafchan bet, Patchell put in a large raise, Nourafchan then reraised all in, and Patchell called.

Patchell showed {6-Spades}{5-Spades} for a pair of sixes and a gutshot straight draw, while Nourafchan had just {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} for a couple of overs. The turn was the {9-Diamonds}, and Patchell was still good. But the river brought the {A-Clubs}, and Patchell goes out in 107th place.

Nourafchan now moves to the top of the leaderboard with 4.81 million.

Phillips v. Eastgate

Dennis Phillips
Dennis Phillips
Dennis Phillips raised to 65,000 from middle position, and both Peter Eastgate (button) and Frank Rusnak (big blind) came along to the flop. It showed up {4-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {K-Spades}, and the first two players checked. Eastgate continued out with a bet of 105,000, Rusnak folded, and Phillips put in the call to see another card.

The turn revealed the {9-Clubs}, drawing another check from Phillips. Eastgate fired again, 175,000 this time, and Phillips quickly check-raised all in with a covering stack. Eastgate frowned and sent his cards sliding back into the muck. It's a great sight to watch these two 2008 finalists duking it out on the featured table, and it should make for some excellent television as well.
