Tavelli Check-Raises Vedes

After having the {3-Spades} exposed on the first go around, Tommy Vedes raised from middle position to 75,000. Only Ian Tavelli in the big blind made the call.

The flop came down {A-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {5-Clubs}. Tavelli checked and Vedes fired 122,000. Tavelli then raised to 500,000 straight. Vedes instantly flung his cards forward into the muck.

Vedes dropped to 4.6 million while Tavelli increased to 2.7 million.

Corrado Corrals Coulthard

Aaron Coulthard committed the remainder of his stack with {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades} pre-flop, but he had the misfortune of running into Montagna Corrado's pocket jacks. Corrado flopped top set, the board running out {J-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {4-Spades} to eliminate Coulthard in 90th place.

Phillips' Five-Bet Shove

Dennis Phillips
Dennis Phillips
Thai Tran opened the pot with a smallish raise to 70,000. Dennis Phillips was two seats over, and he put in a reraise to 180,000. Steve Sanders came in with the call, and the action was back around on Tran. He cut out a big stack of chips -- too many to call with -- and stuck in a healthy reraise to 605,000. That play sent Phillips deep into the tank, and he would take several minutes to act. When he did finally make make his move, it was a big one. He announced, "All in," committing his final 1,950,000. Sanders would reluctantly fold his hand away, and Tran would take his time deciding as well. Finally, he too let his cards go, and Phillips picks up an uncontested pot worth more than 1,000,000 chips.

That hand marks the third time Phillips has four- or five-bet here at the featured table. He's taken down the pot each time, and it's been worth well over 1.5 million to his stack. This latest five-bet bumps him all the way up to the 3,000,000-chip mark!

Calderaro Survives

James Calderaro
James Calderaro
Before the flop, James Calderaro was all in and up against two opponents, Aaron Coulthard and Luis Nargentino. The flop came {9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{8-Spades}, prompting Coulthard to push all in for 522,000. Nargentino got out of the way.

Coulthard turned over {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}, eliciting a puzzled shake of the head from Nargentino. Then Calderaro turned his hand over -- {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a pair of eights.

The turn was the {4-Hearts} and river the {J-Spades}, and Calderaro survives with 860,000.

Esfandiari Lays Down the Law

Jamie Robbins raised to 80,000 from late position and Antonio Esfandiari called on the button. In the big blind, Bobby Law reraised all in for 666,000. Robbins folded, but Esfandiari made the call.

Alper Sar looked at Esfandiari and said, "I feel it!"

"Yeah, I feel it too!" Esfandiari agreed. "I misread my hand though, I thought I had two kings," he went on to say, rolling over {K-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}.

Law tabled {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs} and looked like he was going to double up in dominating fashion.

"It's time to do what I do best," said Esfandiari as the dealer was about to spread the flop. The flop then came down {J-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {9-Hearts}, flopping Antonio the nuts.

"Is there a queen in the deck one time?" asked Law.

The turn brought the {J-Spades}, no help for Law. The final card off was the {7-Spades} and that did it. Law was eliminated on the hand by Esfandiari.

New Life for Crowe

Owen Crowe moved all in for 447,000 on the river with the board showing {6-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {5-Diamonds}. His one opponent was Scott Bohlman, who seemed a bit perplexed by the bet. Bohlman motioned for the dealer to spread the pot, then gave a thumbs-up after the dealer did so. Our quick estimate of the pot was about 350,000 to 400,000.

"Jack-queen?" Bohlman asked, perhaps testing to see if Crowe was on an all-in bluff. Crowe gave no indication one way or another until Bohlman announced call. Then Crowe turned over {J-Hearts} {9-Clubs} and clapped his hands several times.

"Back in business, baby!" he said with glee. Bohlman mucked his cards and shipped the chips. Crowe is up to about 1.3 million.

Double-Double for Rodman

Blair Rodman
Blair Rodman
Phil Ivey opened the pot with a raise to 80,000, and Blair Rodman moved all in for a total of 362,000. When it came back around to him, Ivey made the call to put Rodman at risk of elimination.

Showdown
Ivey: {A-Diamonds} {9-Spades}
Rodman: {8-Spades} {8-Hearts}

Rodman's eights would hold up as the board ran {K-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {2-Spades}. Ivey sends a double up across the felt, dropping down to 2,700,000. Rodman is back in the game, sitting on a stack of 780,000 now.

Hanson Races Out of Here

From the button, Brennan Hanson raised to 76,000. Jamie Brown was in the big blind and after the small blind folded, he moved all in for over one million chips. Hanson only had about 700,000 to start the hand and made the call.

Hanson held {8-Clubs} {8-Hearts} and was in a race against Brown's two overcards -- {K-Spades} {Q-Spades}.

The flop came down {K-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {2-Diamonds}, putting Brown in the lead. The turn was no help to Hanson when the {A-Spades} fell. The river was the {9-Diamonds} and that didn't help either.

Hanson was eliminated from the tournament while Brown moved to nearly two million in chips.

Nguyen Loses

Minh Nyugen
Minh Nyugen
Jonathan Tamayo opened with a raise to 80,000 from the cutoff, and it folded to Minh Nyugen who reraised all in for 330,000 from the big blind. Tamayo quickly made the call, turning over {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} to Nguyen's {A-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

The board went {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}, and Nguyen is out in 93rd place. Tamayo has 3.32 million.

Two Times the Chips for Sebok

First into the pot, Joe Sebok moved all in for his last 154,000. Frank Rusnak gave him action from the button, making the call to put Sebok at risk.

Sebok tabled {5-Clubs} {5-Spades}, racing for his tournament life against the {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades} of Rusnak. The board ran out safe for Sebok, coming {8-Hearts} {8-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}. His fives hold, doubling him up to 389,000.
