Hear This... Derosa Leads

Timmi Derosa
Timmi Derosa

After Kami Chisholm stormed out to that huge chip lead early on, a rash of all-in bets and eliminations at the end of Level 21 and start of Level 22 has evened things out a bit.

Currently Timmi Derosa enjoys the chip lead. When that fact was announced a moment ago, she called out to her fiancé Lee Watkinson sitting in the bleachers.

"Did you hear that, honey?" she asked.

Watkinson nodded with a smile that he had.

Chips for Boesen

Vanessa Hellebuyck raised to 50,000 from the cutoff, and it folded to Sidsel Boesen who reraised to 130,000 from the big blind. Hellebuyck made the call.

The flop came {6-Spades}{K-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Boesen didn't hesitate, betting 140,000, and Hellebuyck thought a few moments before folding.

Hellebuyck is still around the 700,000-chip mark, giving up the chip lead she briefly held to Timmi Derosa. Meanwhile Boesen is at about 630,000.

Aces Up for Hellebuyck

Sidsel Boesen opened with a raise to 45,000 from the button, and Vanessa Hellebuyck called from the big blind. Both checked the {8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{K-Spades} flop and the {A-Hearts} turn. The river brought the {3-Hearts} and a bet of 100,000 from Hellebuyck. Boesen thought a moment, then made the call.

Hellebuyck showed {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for aces up, and Boesen mucked. Hellebuyck moves up to about 600,000 on that one, and Boesen slips back to just above 500,000.

Boesen Doubles Through Chisholm

Kami Chisholm limped from the small blind only to have Sidsel Boesen move all in from the big blind.

Chisholm made the call and showed {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} while Boesen turned over {A-Spades}{2-Spades}. The crowd let out an "ah" when the flop came {J-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}.

Chisholm had picked up a straight draw, which she hit when the {9-Spades} hit the turn. She was in the lead but Boesen had a flush draw heading into the river.

The crowd erupted in a mixture of cheers and jeers when the {4-Spades} hit the river, giving Boesen a double up to around 650,000 and putting a dent in Chisholm's big stack.

Holly Hodge Eliminated in 6th Place ($29,880)

Holly Hodge - 6th place
Holly Hodge - 6th place

A short-stacked Holly Hodge pushed all in for 111,000 and won the blinds and antes. On the next hand she pushed all in again -- this time for 156,000 -- and it folded around to Timmi Derosa in the small blind who called. Vanessa Hellebuyck folded from the big blind.

Hodge showed {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, while Timmi Derosa showed {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}. The flop came {4-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{K-Clubs}, taking one of Hodge's outs away. And the {Q-Hearts} on the turn meant no river card could save her.

Hodge is out in sixth place, while Derosa is now up around 880,000 and challenging Kami Chisholm for the chip lead.

La Sengphet Eliminated in 7th Place ($22,728)

La Sengphet was in early position and pushed all in for her last 82,000. Allison Whalen then rereaised all in from the button and forced both blinds out.

Sengphet: {A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}
Whalen: {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

The flop of {7-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Hearts} was no help to Sengphet. The {6-Clubs} on the turn gave her a few more outs but the {J-Hearts} on the river sent Sengphet home in seventh place. She will take home $22,728 for her efforts.

Raising Hellebuyck

Vanessa Hellebuyck

The table folded around to La Sengphen who pushed all in with her stack of 245,000, then Vanessa Hellebuyck pushed all in herself with her last 168,000 from the button. The blinds got out, and both players showed their hands.

Sengphen held {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}, and Hellebuyck {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. The community cards came {9-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{K-Spades}, and Hellebuyck's queens held.

A huge roar from Hellebuyck's cheering section followed, settling into a raucous chant of "Va-ness-a! Va-ness-a! Va-ness-a!"

"It appears we've found the crowd favorite," cracked Robbie Thompson, our TD.

Hellebuyck bumps up to 384,000, while Sengphet is now the table's short stack with just 85,000.
