Short Stacks Sucking Out

As we made out way through the tables we saw a couple of short stacks hit miracle turns and rivers to keep their tournament dreams alive as we near the conclusion of play for the evening, and perhaps most importantly, the money bubble.

On the first hand we had {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} up against {q-}{k-}. When the board ran out {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, the king-high straight came out ahead.

Not long afterwards, we saw {10-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} best {q-Clubs}{q-Spades} as the cards came {10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{a-Spades}.

Livin Large

We arrived at Liv Boeree's table and saw her involved in a pot with three opponents. There was about 6,000 in the middle of a {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{5-Spades} and one opponent checked to Boeree. She bet 2,100, forcing a fold from a player in middle position. The player on the button popped it to 6,100 and the checker gave it up.

Boeree thought for a moment and made the call, landing the {J-Diamonds} on the turn. Both checked and did so again when the {3-Clubs} river hit. Boeree tabled {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}, better than what her opponent held as she slid her hand to the muck.

Boeree is up to about 33,000 after the hand.

Nice Fold Shannon, Nice Fold

Shannon Elizabeth took her button opportunity to raise action to 1,400. She got a call from the player in the big blind and the two went off to the flop.

The flop came {q-Spades}{j-Spades}{q-Diamonds} and both players checked it, which they would also do on the {k-Hearts} turn. When the big blind player bet 1,800 on the river, Elizabeth took some time to make a decision, at one time asking, "Did you hit that?" Her opponent just shook her head and laughed, saying "Stop looking at me."

Elizabeth eventually folded, but her opponent gave the table a peak, flipping up {j-}{q-}, good for a flopped boat.

Boeree Fails To Knock One Out

Liv Boeree was under the gun and had raised to 1,625 when action folded to the big blind, who moved all in for 2,275 more. Boeree made the call and tried to get an elimination under her belt.

Boeree: {j-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Opponent: {q-Spades}{a-Clubs}

The flop came {5-Spades}{7-Spades}{q-Hearts}, giving each player a pair of queens, but leaving Boeree outkicked. The turn and river came {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}, which weren't what Boeree needed and she doubled up her opponent.

Isaacs Iced

Wth the board reading {8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, Suzie Isaacs re-raised an opponent all in for about 8,500 and after a short while, her opponent made the call with {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. Isaacs tabled {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for the better flush draw, but the {Q-Spades} hit on the turn and Isaacs would not be saved by the {10-Diamonds} river.

Dragon Lady Tamed

Gretchen "Dragon Lady" Brummer got mixed up on what would be her last hand when she raised to 1,600 from the cutoff position and had one of the blinds re-raise to 3,000. Brummer re-raised all in and said "Thanks for the double up." When her opponent asked whether Brummer would show her cards if she folded, Brummer said no. At that point, her opponent made the call.

Brummer was behind from the start with {a-}{10-} against her opponent's {a-}{k-} and failed to pull ahead.

Portal Finds a Double

We arrived at Alexia Portal's table to see her all in for 3,875. She had shoved over the top of a raise and a call, and the raiser called Portal's all in after about a minute in the tank. The other opponent folded and it was off to the races.

Portal: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Opponent: {K-Spades}{J-Spades}

The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and Portal's pair help up. She's upped her stack to nearly 10,000.
